Hey NBR guys, I know you guys are awesome when someone needs help so I have a question:

Can the Compaq Presario CQ40-314TU handle a C2D mobile chip? It's stock with a T3400 but would it handle the T7600? The two chips are nearly identical with 65nm, 667MHz FSB, 35W power, and even packing type.

Can anyone confirm for a guy over at techpowerup? Here's his original post at techpowerup:

    Thanks guys!

CPU upgrade? I believe there is a sticky post regarding CPU upgrade.
If you do not consider warranty period, why not choosing Penryl?

Since you are using Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset, theoretically P series of C2D would the best choice.

I have found something about CPU Upgrade on the Intel's Website, the manufacturer of my laptop's chipset (GM45 Chipset). Currently, the CPU which this laptop is using (Dual Core T3400) is NOT in this list: http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=35509
The laptop's chipset also support Core 2 Extreme Technology, which I think the latest CPU Technology.
I have another laptop called Acer Aspire 5572ANWXMi that is using the chipset 945GM which support the T7600 (like you suggested) and it is in this list: http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=22816
