    Hello everyone,

    It seems upon booting up good ol' FS2004 last night, my display randomly went "black." Shocked, I tried to reboot the machine but to no avail. Then I turned on a bright light, and upon it booting up: I did indeed see the BIOS screen, and everything went just fine to the Windows 7 login screen, just sans-backlight. I assume this means the failure lies with the display inverter, but I'm just asking here to make sure // get other's input.

    As in the subject, the model in question is a CQ-60 215DX that I bought new sometime in 2/2009 or so. I have already taken it apart once to clean that annoying layer of gunk that builds up in the heatsink, and I'm pretty sure I had located the inverter while doing that. Small strip of printed circuit looking thing at the bottom center of the display? (Heh, sorry for my terminology. It's still very early in the morning.)

    My other questions are;

    Does anyone think there's any chance of being able to "jostle" it, that maybe it fell out of place? I remember reading that somewhere... although the price tag of this part isn't that bad... which brings me to my next question...

    Is the inverter the same for all CQ60s or am I looking for a specific model number?

    Also of course, if I'm on the wrong track, I'd certainly like to know before I start busting out the mini-screwdriver. Everything else seemed to be functioning except the backlight, and I could clearly makeout my custom login graphic so that would lend me to believe the GPU is still intact and there's no fatal issues. (whew) I might try to hook it up to an external display later, as well.

    Thanks in advance for your support.

    In 98% of those cases it's either the inverter or LCD cable that provides power to the inverter.

    Since both parts are really cheap compared to other possible faults, I usually get them both at once and replace both just to be sure. Not to mention it's really annoying to realize that the part you just replaced didn't fix the issue.

    Thanks for the tip. By chance does anyone happen to know the correct part numbers for these two for the CQ60-215DX?
