One day, I decided to try booting my CQ50 without the power button. To do so, I traced the circuit of the board to a few pins. Turns out if you use a piece of INSULATED wire, you can turn it on.

    TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK.

You could damage your computer. Or yourself.

Step 1. Take the wire and make sure it contacts the first prong from the left (all the way down to the base).
Step 2. Make sure your fingers are only touching the insulated part of the wire and count out four pins from the right. Bend the wire so when you put it down, it will only touch that prong.
Step 3. Make contact, and it should boot.

    This works with both a 106CA and a 215CA

It works!! I tried like 30 times until I realized: Take out the power cord. It has to be on battery until it turns on, then you plug in the power cord. Exactly like you said,I took a piece of wire and match the 1st contact from the left with 4th contact from the right, and boom! It purrs like a kitten. (It's CQ 50, and my power button board is broken)

    Thanks man

Sorry for posting in this quite old thread but I was wondering if you could do that 'trick' for the wifi button? If someone knows which exact pins I should use - please, say. :)
