Alrighty, I have here three identical CQ50 laptops. All three have the same hardware, Celeron Processors, 2gb ram, 120gb hdds.

This one here, does not want to boot. When i turn it on, it shows the compaq logo, then a blank screen. i.e. The backlight is on, but no video, no cursor, no nothing. As if it stalls after post. Will not boot from harddrive/windows bootable cd/ Dos bootable cd/ Ubuntu bootable USB.

I have swapped over all of its parts, processor, ram, hard drive, cmos battery to a working unit, and they work just fine.

I have tried doing the hard reset, still the same blank screen. Also it will not let me go into bios sometimes. Sometimes it does. I can still press ESC and do the memory test and the hard drive test, its all fine by then, but when i select boot, it shows the blank screen. No nothing. Atleast it should state that no bootable device found, but no, nothing at all. You can leave it there and it will be like that for days.

These laptops usually do not have the AMD/NVIDIA cancer of the video chip, intel based and work perfectly. I also service these computers every once in a while to clear the fan of any debris. So it's not running hot or nothing. This problem developed overnight i guess. Is there a way to reflash the bios other than holding the windows + b key with the hard drive in.

Or, what is the proper way to reflash the bios on a CQ50, using a USB stick. When i use mine it doesnt work at all. I think my directory structure is improper.

Please advise. Post thoughtfully after reading.

In a last ditch effort, before I took the hammer to this laptop, I plugged in a 2 GB Kingston USB drive, downloaded the oldest version available of the bios on the HP website, made many copies of that .FD file and renamed them to bin as well. For example if it was a 325FF.FD, i renamed and made 3.bin, 32.bin, 325.bin, 325f.bin and 325FF.bin. Also the same named with a .FD extension. I put all these files right on the usb root, no folders no nothing, i didnt even change the drive label. When I plugged it in, I just pressed and held Windows + B for one second while it turned on. Now I just figured out, while reflashing bios, this computer makes quite alot of loud beeps, they're loud, quite loud, woke up my neighbors dog apparently. So it made quite a few loud beeps, while reading from the USB and then turned off. When i turned it on again, it posted then stated no bootable media found. Hurray.

Okay now what. So I had a dead Dell D620 layin around, with a Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0Ghz with a 2mb cache in it. I plugged that into my CQ50. And behold do I tell you, how the life of this CQ50 has changed. It flies. Flies through post, flies through windows loading, all games are beautiful. I also tried a T7300 2.0Ghz with a 4mb Cache and it also works on this motherboard.

Here are the dxdiag and system information. Hope this information helps.
