I got my laptop about one month ago.
I'm kinda worried about it's temperatures. Just surfing internet, I get 75-88ºC (or even 91ºC) on the CPU, and 55ºC on the harddrive. Is that normal? If I run a game, the temperature goes even higher. For example, I was at 77ºC and I opened a video in youtube and it went to 81ºC! Right now I'm just talking on Skype and I have 85ºC.
The computer is not on my lap, it is on a table, so i am not blocking any of the air vents, and the room temperature is not high at all.
Are those temps normal? Should I worry?
-
heeeeey? anyone? sorry for the bump...
-
Wow, I was using Vista and all the appearence options where turned on. When I turned them off, the temperatures went 10º or even 15º down!! Now I have 67º.

i think u got some serious heat issue, check your lap fan to see whether it is working or not
-
as for working, yes, it is working, i hear it going up and down depending on what i do

i own a compaq cq50-215nr, which is a lesser model than yours. mine gets probably just as hot as yours, i never really checked the temps though, it feels like your getting burned by my base of the laptop, i am going to buy a cooling pad, and i usually go downstairs were its very cold to get my temps to regulate kinda. it works
hey lets open a Compaq Cq50 owners lounge or are there not enough owners :| -
I'm not worried about it's heat because of myself but because of the computer!
Does anyone know which whould be a normal temperature for both the CPU and the HD? And beyond which temp they get damaged?
cq50FUD, i'm using Notebook Hardware Control to monitor the temps, you should try it so that we can compare our results. -
well is there any other device like that installed on vista? cause i saw in another post a that there was or something, and does that work on vista? never said it did.
-
eh?
which device?
i'm using vista -
i heard there was a device measuring the temp of your laptop in vista now
-
if you'd just install that soft we will be able to compare our readings... i don't know any vista device

I have the same problem. I put taller rubber feet on the bottom, and that got me a degree or two cooler, but both Vista and Suse Linux have it running hot. I partially solved the problem by selecting "powersave" in the CPU frequency policy. (right click on the AC power plug icon in the tray). This does slow down the machine, but most applications don't seem to care. If I need more horsepower I just change it back. Now I run in the mid 40s at idle, and never over 60 degrees unless I accidently block the fan inlet on the bottom. (Stupid place to put it on a laptop.)
Hope that helps -
yea, they left their minds at home when they went to the drawing board for this cq series. my cq45 also gets as hot as an oven. that too with a p series processor. and they made me flash the bios with an 'upfate' which neow does not let the cpu temeratures change ( or rather, does not let them be displayed properly). as long as the system is running, the s/w will show the same temperature.i reboot suddenly and then the s/w will show different temp, all within 1 min. what pathetic piece of engineering.
