Hello! I honestly had no clue i had an account here, but okay!
Anyway, i'm going back to school in about a month. A month into the year, i'm going to need a laptop. My dad wants to give me $500 for helping him with a few things, so i figure i'll put it into a laptop.
Right now i'm looking at a Compaq CQ62z. It seems like a good lappy, but one problem: It's new. It hasn't been out very long, so there aren't any reviews on it. I'd like to have some sense of reliability of it... does anyone know how Compaq is doing now? My friend has a bare bones laptop by them, that's dirt cheap, and it's having problems. One of my other friends has an entry level one that was custom built for running WoW 5 years ago, and it still works great. So i have mixed feelings.
I need this computer to last me roughly 3 or 4 years. The longer the better, but i'd like to be out of HS when it dies. I'll need a better laptop for collage anyway, but in HS, the demands aren't too much.
I see the HP G62 is the same thing, but in Intel form. If that's the best i can find for comparison, than it'll do. I've seen a few people around here with the CQ62z though, so i'm hoping to get info.
If someone can recommend a computer that has all the features of my build, from a company with a good rep, please do. I can't find much though.

I have a CQ62 and so far, I'm quite satisfied. First, there is an Intel version of the CQ62. However, the Intel version is only available with a Celeron processor and GMA4500M graphics. You can also save a little bit of cash by just going to Walmart and getting the CQ62-209WM which is nearly the same as your configuration, just without a webcam and with a 7200RPM 250GB hard drive as well as 3GB DDR3 (upgradeable to 8GB DDR3). The processor is also a little slower in the CQ62-219WM as it is an AMD Athlon II X2 P320 at 2.1GHz. Depending on what area you are in will depend on how much you will need to pay in taxes. I paid $418.90 for mine after tax. With that extra cash you could be saving, you could get a Seagate FreeAgent Go 320GB external hard drive or something.

I found the Intel Version at an Office Depot that's nearby. It seemed okay, but i know that a Celeron would crumble with what i'm going to be doing. :/
I also ran across the CQ62-219WM at Walmart too. Seemed like a pretty good one, and i seriously considered it. I'd be fine with the slightly slower CPU, but it also eats 10 more watts of power :/
I'll look around and see what i can find. I played with the G62 and the CQ62, and i REALLY like the trackpad. One of the more sensitive ones i've used... and it's not choppy like some.
What kind of battery life do you get with yours?
