Hi, I am in the market for 8440p and 8440w with 1600x900 display. It is difficult to find a model with I5 520m (I want to go with 520m instead of 620m that might have the heat issues or power consumption)

I recently tried to customize elitebook 8440w and others, I realized the starting price has been gone up around $300.
I tried to customize elitebook 8440w and price change is somewhat frustration compared to pre-built.

Does anyone have any idea for that ?
Is it because of new elitebook,(maybe 2nd gen) released ?

I found some elitebook model doesn't include vPro with a little bit cheaper price. Is Intel vPro big deal ?

the elitebooks are probably going to be upgraded in terms of hardware (new i7 cpus, and HOPEFULLY A RADEON 5700/5800 for the 8540p and maybe a lower one for the 8440p) since theres not going to be a new series (8#50 or so) until late 2011/2012.

regarding vpro - you cant "need" vpro or not "need" it, its like the more common centrino tag a set of features that have to be present in order to be qualified for having that centrino vpro tag. these features are cpus with vpro technology (mainly for virtualization - unless you really need it, you dont need it :)), chipsets, intel AMT, wlan, flash memory etc.

obviously this is one without the vpro tag, so something required for the tag is not present. maybe its that hp mobile broadband.

but as i said, if you dont exactly know that you need a vpro model, you almost certainly dont, so dont worry.

This morning I got two different quotes from hp sales person.
They are pretty similar CTO 8440w but price differ about $300.
One strange thing is that higer spec one(without vPro) is cheaper than lower one(with vPro).

Do I need to negotiate the price with sales person?
How many percent is the discount possible ?

    I am being frustrated...

As a Linux user, I've found it quite worthwhile having AMT -- with it, I can remotely power up, power down, and hard-reboot the thing, and can even get a serial console (including the Grub menu) over the network. It's awesome for grabbing stacktraces of various problems that kill both local and ssh consoles. I just wish AMD had an equivalent.

EDIT: to clarify, "Centrino 2 vPro" means AMT is enabled.
