I have been trying to calibrate my HP (DV2700) battery. It would drop from 40% down to 6% and put the computer into standby mode. If I were to turn it back on, it would drain down to 0% and run for another 30 minutes before it powers off.

After that I would give the battery a full charge. I have tried to charge it while the computer was in sleep mode, and while it was on.

It doesn't help that RMclock reports the remaining capacity as like 21mWh remaining when its at the "0%" mark. I do switch between 3 batteries so not sure if that does anything negatively.

    Am I doing something wrong?

(Yes I am well aware that draining it is bad and calibration is not always necessary)

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, though switching batteries may somehow effect how the power level is reported (not sure). If you really want to check, as HP use to recommend for NiCd’s .... do two complete battery cycles (i.e. run the unit until the battery is completely depleted… fully recharge… completely deplete it again…. then fully recharge). From that point, see how it does. If that solves your calibration issue, you could then swap batteries and see if the issue returns.

…. either way you’ll have your answer. You can also find additional battery care and calibration info here.

Change the Windows power settings so you don't go into standby/sleep/hibernate when the battery level gets low and then completely run the batteries until they die. This is supposed to recalibrate them though I've never actually tried it myself.. :)

Sorry haven't replied, I have not had a good chance to drain it, going to school always leaves me with like 40% left so its easy to finish it off.

Draining now, been at 0% for last 25 minutes and still running. The biggest change was the battery voltage which dropped .6 volts so far according to RMclock

Its annoying how HP doesn't report reaming battery time and can't even accurately display the percentage.
