Let's make a list of all the HP users out there who uses SSD.
Format
Notebook: HDX16t - 2.5GHz P8700
SSD Brand: OCZ Vertex
Size (GB): 30GB
Quick Note: This vertex is super fast (Much, Much faster than any 7200RPM HD I've used) but I've tested a much faster SSD by intel X25-M.
Let make this thread happen!

hp 2710p: 32gb mtron. awesome performance (together with a core2duo 1.2ghz quite funny combination, performing unbelievable snappy).
hp 2730p: 128gb samsung mlc. much storage, faster notebook, but less snappy than the mtron on the old notebook. will be replaced with an x18-m 160gb once out (or so, waiting for the news anandtech announced about new intel stuff).
hp desktop with quadcore, 4gb ram. 2x 64gb mtron 3500 in raid0. 200MB/s read/write, holy snappiness!! it's definitely the thing to beat(hope the intel disk will do so
).
possibly trying out a vertex for a new media center pc one day. -

HP 2510p with the 64GB Samsung PATA SSD it came with.

My 2710p's hard drive bit it a couple months ago and I'm finally getting around to replacing it. My fault, I dropped the poor thing early on and I'm surprised the drive lasted as long as it did after that.
I was about to panic today after reading some articles that PATA SSD drives were going the way of the do-do. I finally found a few but all were 2.5" jobs. I really wanted to go SSD.
I'd heard about it costing $800 from HP ... what a rip.
Well, some marvel of coincidence Tiger Direct posted this unit just TODAY (OCZ 64GB 1.8" PATA Solid State Drive) on Amazon today (it doesn't show on the TD main web site). 64GB SSD here I come ... best part? $85 ... for the 64GB version. The 32GB version is posted at $150. I'm guessing someone really goofed on the pricing OR they're clearing out inventory and really are about to go the way of the do-do.
I have confirmation from Amazon that Tiger Direct accepted the order and it should be here by Friday. I have my fingers crossed. I'll post back here if it doesn't work out. -
I am still trying to figure out if the new SSD option for the HDX18 is an Intel 160. If anyone has one, please let me know. HP Support will not give out that info.

I have a G.Skill Titan 256GB in my dv5z. I also now have a Transcend 128GB PATA in my Asus M6Ne. And I still have an OCZ Core V2 120GB SATA sitting around. I suppose I could find a SATA caddy to replace my optical drive and add it to my dv5z. Using a drive thru USB2 adapter really sucks, best speed is about 21MB/sec. Thru firewire is OK, it maxes out at close to 50MB/sec. I guess I should go get an eSATA cable...

Is there really any apparent benefit for SSDs vs. HDD? I mean sure you have uber speed but you get such a small amount of Gigs whereas HDDs in 7200rpms have more space.

Notebook: DV7-1038CA P8400 2.26GHz 4GB RAM
SSD Brand: OCZ Solid Series
Size (GB): 30GB
Quick Note: Quite quick when initially using it. But with the apparent shortcomings of MLC flash and the JMicron controller, the performance goes downhill once all the flash blocks have been written to. -

Tiger Direct has the 64GB for $85 on their main page today (was just on Amazon yesterday):
OCZ 64GB 1.8" PATA Solid State Drive ( O261-7650 ) -
vertex 120GB, available soon
407.39 CAD include tax
good deal? -
I wonder how well this performs? It would work nicely in my nc2400...

Ok, I am a new club member!!!!!!!
I have the dv7t in my signature but I changed my drives... I now have:
Samsung 64gb SLC SSD (Smoking fast no hiccups!!) and a
400gb WD 5400 drive
I gotta say I installed Windows 7 on it in like less than 10 minutes (give or take) and I am now getting 11 second shutdowns and 39 second cold boots!
Thats after installing all my programs back on the lappy
This is AMAZING -

How much did you get your Samsung 64GB SSD for? -
-
I'm currently using a 2.5" 60GB Ocz Solid Series SSD. It's working fine and doesn't heat up as much as the original hard drive.
Cheers,

The OCZ 64GB 1.8" isn't right, worth a shot, but the 2710p uses something even smaller. :sigh:
-
We all are well aware of the HD temperature issues that dominate most HP laptops.... what sort of drop in HD temps did you guys see after you switched to SSD? Thanks.

anyone have a 1.8" samsung slc
just wonder if it physically work for HDX16 with a 1.8" to 2.5" adapter for lenovo(fru 42w8019)
