The aim is to lower the temp.

I wanted to know if I can Undervolt or Underclock the CPU and/or the GPU in order to minimize the heat while doing some resource intensive work, even at the cost of performance if required.
    Here are the specs:

    i7 2630QM
    6770m 2GB

Some searches came up with results but to be frank, its quite confusing. MSI Afterburner is I think supposed to be only for nvidia GPU but I also saw users using it for ATI.

Any help regarding this would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Beyond the obvious of cleaning the fan, repasting and possibly replacing the degraded heatpipe:

I suggest installing a modded BIOS for this laptop and setting fan speeds to kick in at a much lower temperature.

Yes you can underclock it via MSI Afterburner.

You can also use Throttlestop to downclock your CPU.

    PS:

Check the Donovan6000 blog for a 6770m BIOS.

    Thanks.

Is there any guide for MSI to undervolting the 6770m GPU and probably Throttlestop for i7 too? I found some general guides which quite frankly, didn't help at all. For example, in throttlestop, I cannot change Clock modulation and clock mod but I can set the multiplier to 29T from 36, which I don't have any idea about.

Soz bud. I would like to help you out but I have never bothered to downclock my GPU.

However Leshcatlabs.net has the highest amount of 6770m users.

One particular user that overclocks comes to mind that has a 6770m.

You might have better luck with GPU specific questions on that forum.

If you cannot change the ThrottleStop - Clock Modulation values then that means ThrottleStop is still in Monitoring mode. Does it say Monitoring in the top bar? After you click on the Turn On button, the Monitoring word will disappear and then you can adjust ThrottleStop so it changes the speed of your CPU.

After you do this, make sure Set Multiplier is checked and adjust that value lower to slow your CPU down. On the right hand side of ThrottleStop, you can see the speed of your CPU decrease.

My Core i7-4700MQ usually runs at approximately 3500 MHz. By lowering the Set Multiplier value to 18, the CPU is now running just under 1800 MHz.

Yeah, I was able to change the Clock mod and Chipset clock.
By decreasing the multiplier to say 17, benchmark did show a slower performance but there was no change in highest temp. Secondly, as you showed in your pic, the multiplier sometimes doesn't reflect above the readings table. For example, when set to 20, it was fluctuating between 19-19.70 and didn't read 20. At other times, setting to 16 made it stick at 15.
EDIT - likely because CPU usage is set to <100% in power menu.

    Thanks for your help.
