Just looking for some downsides of the dv5t. Im using it for warhammer/school and will upgrade the video card and stuff up to about $1,100.
How bad is the heat while gaming? Anything else I should know?
Its either this or the sager NP2096 (I think). But the sager has fn before the ctrl key....which would **** me off way too much while gaming.

Get a cooler to use while gaming and you'll be good. Undervolting also helps, but mainly a cooler for GPU. You can try arctic silver etc, but might void your warranty.

over heating

As everyone else has said...HEAT. If you put a 9600m GT in there it idles at like 80c and goes around 100c with load. The cooling system is pretty much an afterthought, as many have mentioned.

This will be my first laptop, so I dont have much experience with heat so..
Will my laptop like totally die out on me if it overheats or what? Will a cheap (20-40$) cooler be ok for long gaming periods? What if I wanted to game with it on my lap for a bit?
Specs and prices are pretty much the same between the two. So I guess
Sager pros
-Good on heat
-Battery life
Sager Cons
-Looks bad
-fn key in wrong place
- Heard touch pad is in the way while typing
HP pros
-looks nice
HP cons
-battery life
-Overheating

If it's like the dv5z and I think it is, it's got a terrible touchpad and buttons. The touchpad requires more effort than most I've seen. The touchpad buttons are stiff and clicky. It's the main reason I sent my dv5z back. If you're going to be mainly using a mouse, it's probably not a big deal. The WSXGA+ screen is very nice in my opinion.

Lol @ jstn. Great to see people spreading lies without owning the computer. With my stats, at idle temps / using just internet, CPU cores are at 30-35 C, GPU at 40-50 C as Chango mentioned, and HDD at 40-45 C.
Playing Neverwinter Nights 2 for 2-2.5 hours or so with undervolted, without cooler, with med/max graphics, CPU cores have gotten to 71/62 C respectively, gpu to 82 C, and HDD to 51 C. PS the comp is raised about 2 inches, overall, the heat issues are highly exagerated. I do plan on getting a cooler in a week or two, primarily to keep HDD under 45 when gaming.
Obviously not all comps are made equally, so some comps will get bit hotter, but 80 at idle is a str8 up lie. -
Well the touchpad really isin't an issue with me since i'll be using a mouse while gaming.
How much can I expect to spend on a cooler? Are they a hassle to use? -
$30-60 on a cooler, don't seem like a hassle, won't really be able to tell you first hand experience for a week or two.
And yes, using mouse as well -
But I take it the models with integrated graphics don't have (as much of) a heating problem?

Can I get some cons of the dv5t?
