looking to upgrade my soundcard to an audiophile soundcard, i.e., ASUS Xonar Essence, but I've never done anything like this and I know the Envy is hard to work with. Is it possible?

You can't install a standard pc-based expansion card in a laptop. There just isn't enough room to allow for those components or the bus interconnects. Most laptops have everything integrated on the motherboards with the exception of RAM, wireless and storage. I know USB based external "sound cards" exist and should work fine with the Envy, but they probably don't have what you are looking for.

Hmmm, I was just looking at the Emu0404 on amazon and it's a PCI-E interface that won't work in a laptop.
