    I have the DV5-1157ca 320Gb 5400rpm hard drive SATA.

I just erased my bios and can't boot it up and need the info from the hard drive, can i just take out the hard drive and connect it to a SATA enabled desktop?

Plug in the sata power cable, and the sata data cable. Boot up and it should be in my computer. There is really no chance of it frying, sata power is the same between notebooks, desktops, etc. You might need to take a sata pin adapter off the actual hard drive before hand to get to the real sata connections

all sata laptop harddrives are compatible with a desktop... Just plug them in like a normal drive and go....

Not gonna happen, it's designed for compatibility. @ nikeseven - nope, just plug and play. There's no proprietary connector on the DV5, it's a regular SATA cable, just that it has power and data joined into one single larger connector.

Oh ok. I know some do and some don't so I wasn't sure if that was confusing him when taking it out.
