    Hello guys,

I just received my Pavilion dv7 and was extremely exited to get it. The laptop itself looks beautiful, I followed the instructions, insert battery, then plug in, now the problem started when I plugged it in...

I touch my computer to open the lid and I can feel the electricity running through the lid. I think maybe there is something wrong with the plug so I go to another plug and same thing. I open the lid to see if I can feel it inside and I can, the electricity can be felt all through the laptop.

The feeling is like a slight vibration running through the entire laptop, outside, inside on the palm rest of the keyboard. I have tried multiple outlets in my house and it's the same in all of them. I'm afraid to turn the computer on and risk anything worse happening.

I'm in California and ordered my pavilion dv7 through HP.com. I am so dissapointed because I waited for this computer for so long and I was so exited, now I think I might have to return it :(

    This are the specs

The DC jack is probably making contact with some metal part of the case. Try running on the battery to see if it happens.

Are you getting shocked by it? Or do you just feel it vibrating?

    I just feel it vibrating

Edit: don't feel it when using the battery just when it's plugged in

Does it do it if you change power plans while plugged in?

Could be your dual 7200rpm hard drives or DVD drive spinning up at full speed.

Try copying large files from one disk to the other and see if it gets worse.

My old HP ZD7180 used to shock the hell outta me when I used my travel ac power adapter. The front of the notebook had a metal screen to cover the speakers and my wrists would get zapped. When I used oem power supply I wouldn't get shocked.

After doing some tests, changing power setting etc I noticed the problem persists. The only time the laptop doesn't "vibrate" is when the battery is working and not plugged in. Now, things got very quiet in my house after a while and now I get to hear a "sparking" or "buzzing" sound that comes out of the box that has the cable which attached to the wall (sorry, don't know the name of the adapter thing).
The sound is not continuous, it happens every 30 seconds or so, I immediately unplugged it after the 3rd buzz to prevent damage or worse a fire. I think the AC power cord is defective then right?

Its called the AC brick/adapter. Give HP a call and they should send you a new one.
