    Can i combine a partition

    Can i combine a partition without reformatting my hard drive.

    For example i have a C drive which has all my stuff. and a D drive which is blank. How do i combine the 2. its physically on the same hard ddrive. thanks.

    Yes you can merge 2 partitions but you'll need a partion manager program to do it. Partition magic, partition manager.

    You can use Linux LiveCD to do that Knoppix or some other distributions. It is called resizentfs or something similar.
    It is safe to use.

    Be careful if your machine uses SATA hard drive... it is not Safe to use. Just recently, I used Gparted (the GUI implementation of Resizentfs) to resize one NTFS partition, and it totally killed my Windows partition. XP would boot up alright? but it resulted in tons of crash errors..and application instabilities.

    It is always a risk.

    There is a live Digital Dolly CD out now that can remove and resize partaions. It is menu driven and free.

    i haven't had true success with partition magic, either combining or adjusting partition size. once the data was lost, the other time selective files were missing. i think the safest route is to plan ahead, make partitions and leave them be until the next time you reformat/reinstall everything.
