Hi all , i'm new here and this my 1st post
i have bought HP Pavilion dv6-1390ev two weeks ago it's my 1st notebook
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/me/en/ho/WF06b/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3999443-4043712.html
very good and i love it my main problem is that the notebook comes with lots of programs and apps installed and it makes the notebook slow ..
so i decided to install clean fresh windows 7 home premium
it's the same version that comes with the notebook ..
my problem is i can't activate windows 7 with the windows serial on the back of the notebook .. can someone help me with that
my 2nd question is ,, to which Owners' lounges i belong?![]()
thnx in advance and sorry for the bad english

electron - if you can not activate Windows 7 with the serial on the back of the notebook - then there is something wrong with the information you have told us. I have re-loaded and activated two laptops with Windows 7 Home Premium (my HP Mini 311 and one for a friend) - both were loaded with the 32-bit DVD that came with the three-user upgrade pack. After reloading, activation will fail, then you have to call the number provided by the activation process, read the long series of numbers generated by the activation process, answer a question ("On how many computers is this software loaded?"), and input another long series of numbers into the activation window. As long as your activation key is installed on only ONE computer - you should not have any problems.

Hi JellyGeo thnx alot for the reply
ok here is the situation .. i bought the notebook and it comes with windows 7 home premium installed and activated , but coz it has lots of apps and programs installed , i want to install fresh clean windows ..
but i don't have a windows 7 dvd ,, there was no windows dvd with the notebook just the recovery partion ..
so a friend of mine gave me a windows 7 home premium dvd with no serial
and told me i can use the serial on the back of the notebook coz it's the same version .. and my serial is legal ..
this my 1st notebook and i'm Win XP user so i'm new to this stuff
i don't know if what i did is wrong or not
could u plz guide me what i should do ..
thnx in advance -
elctron - OK - I guess I don't understand what happens when you try to activate Win 7? When I attempted to activate mine (I used the "change product key" option instead of Activate Windows now) the activation failed. Then the activation assistant prompted me with some choices - and I picked activate using the automated phone system. Then Windows comes back asking me to pick the nearest location. I picked USA but there are many other locations and phone numbers. Once you click your country, then it will display a telephone number and generate a long list of numbers (hash) below the telephone number.
Then, you can call the phone number given, and it will be an automated response. The "lady" will ask you to read the hash numbers to "her", then you will be asked how many computers this software is installed on, then you say "one", and it will check to see if that activation code is being used on another computer. If that activation code is truly only being used on one computer, then the automated assitant will give you the long series of numbers used to activate you copy. If that activation code is being used on another system, then the activation will probably fail.
I think we can be reasonably sure that MS does not have millions of different activation numbers. What I think they are doing with the activation hash numbers, and this is pure speculation, is capturing your public IP address (assuming you are on a home router and have a private IP on that side). Then, again this is just speculation, they generate the hash using info from your BIOS, other hardware info, and your public IP. Then, they match that information up with their lists of which activation codes "belong" to which manufacturers and models, and if there is another system using the same activation code, and that system is on the same subnet as your system, then I would assume that MS would NOT activate the second copy. Makes sense to me and you can't blame them - they're in business to sell software, not give it away.
Anyway, the process takes five minutes or so - I used Skype to call them so it cost me 12 cents ...If everything about your system and the activation code is on the up and up, you should not have any problems.

brianstretch Notebook Virtuoso
See the stickied HP out of the box Windows 7 thread in this forum:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=432564
If I'm reading it correctly, you can use the same activation backup method that's used with Vista (and has its own stickied thread). -
I had similar problem with Vista 64.I was not able to activate online and I must call Microsoft.

I did not know that there is a utility similar to ABR to use with Windows 7! I have used ABR alot over the past couple of years and it works beautifully. This would be especially handy for me because I like to have three partitions on each of my laptops; primary and backup OS and a data partition. Back to the original topic, I guess it's a little late for elctron to backup his original certificate and activation code.
Edited to add: I clicked on the Sharebee link in the HP Laptop Out-of-Box guide ( http://forum...t=432564) just to check it out, and Microsoft Security Essentials went wild with two red pop-up warnings, and I had to clean my computer. I don't know what Sharebee is trying to do, but please be careful. I think that post needs to be updated with a warning about Sharebee!! -
brianstretch , fantomasz , JellyGeo
thnx alot guyz for ur help ..
anyway i think it's not late to backup the original certificate and activation code ..
i still have the recovery partion and the 3 dvds recovery disks i created when i got the notebook
now i made system recovery and i'm on the actiavted windows 7 now .. i downloaded the Win7Activator tool from the link < brianstretch> posted
then pressed < backup > and i saved the file on a flash memory ..
i will do clean install again and i will restore this file to restore the acitavtion code .. i hope it will work
JellyGeo - thnx alot for the automated phone system steps .. i'm in Egypt when i tried to call Egypt number it gives me number busydon't know why .. i tried Saudi Arabia number i talked to the lady but seems it's expinsive call so it ended up when i was giving her the < hash > numbers
i will call again using SkyPe if the above method didn't work .. -

Hmmm - I just tested this from the Dell 1555 running McAfee - and, yes, Sharebee came up as a green site. Six of the seven links that Sharebee listed to actually download the file came up as yellow on McAfee. Of the list, ShareZ (not completely sure about the name) was green and I downloaded it - after many pop-ups and a long wait. Once it was unzipped - yes, the Win 7 Activator was found safe my McAfee. Sorry for what appears to be a false alarm - I use Security Essentials on a few of my systems b/c it can't be beat for the price.

yaaaaaay
it works like a charm
my new Windows 7 is activated now .. this Win 7 Activator tool is perfect
thnx alot < v3loc1ty2.0 >
anyway i still have one question i would really appreciate if u answer it guyz
I want to split Drive (C) into 2 drives with Partion Magic i'm i gonna face any problems or lose the recovery partion (D) ?
I want it like this (C) for OS - (D) the recovery - (E) the new one for my data
thnx again for ur help -
I hate to resurrect an older thread - but I tried the Win 7 Activator (twice) on a fresh build on my Sony CW. The activation appeared to work fine, until I rebooted the system. The activation failed after a reboot - and in both cases it only gave me three days to activate - instead of 30. Maybe it's operator headspace and timing on my part - but it would not work for me. Either way - I was able to activate the clean install by calling M$ as mentioned above.

Upon prior consideration, I wish to remove my post.

SSX4 - Did we wake up on the wrong side of the bed?? Anyways - this was not a hijak. I was the first person to respond to elctron's request, with what I thought was meaningful input. And, I was not the first person who brought up the Win 7 Activator. Out of respect for v3loc1ty, I didn't think my comments about the Win 7 Activator were out of line. As a further sign of respect, I was careful to qualify that I may have not used Win 7 Activator correctly - but I did want other readers to know that there may be a problem with the activator.

If I stand corrected then I stand corrected.
Perhaps I'm just used to the Acer forum where people pull a "Hi I'm having an XYZ problem but it's not the same as the person who made the thread (if that makes sense).
I actually had a 3 paragraph reply in my previous post and saved it before noticing your comment. I guess I didn't read it fully, and only saw the sentence / comment and assumed.
To paraphrase.
xrm-ms cert + key + slic 2.1 bios = auto activate across all Windows 7 platforms.... even if the laptop doesn't come with that specific COA. If you aren't passing SLP activation one of the 3 is missing somewhere or you have the wrong version of something in that triangle. -
SSX4 - My comments above were not in keeping with the good citizenship expected of us on NBR, and have been edited out - I apologize. And, I have to be nice to you because you know something I don't ...
. Do you have time to explain the whole xrm-ms cert and slic 2.1 BIOS business? This whole activation process, for Win 7, is apparently much more involved than I thought - and I would like to know more about it. Thanks!!

My hands are a bit tied when it comes to explaining SLP activation (system locked pre-activation) due to previous engagements - Link . I got a nice C&D (Cease and Desist letter... a.k.a. angry gram) the last time I talked about Windows XP activation and how to use it to unlock SLP activation.
Microsoft didn't seem to take very kindly that I spoke about the embedded OEM Royalty keys built into the OS, and then how to use those keys to re-install XP and activate it using OEMBios files. Other than the fact that these "keys" are public knowledge and installed on all all systems (not like I'm bitter or anything)....Not to mention that this method if activation is actually preferred by M$ for their Windows OS across all platforms starting with XP.
I'll go into some detail here, but most of the information can be freely found online. My Digital Life has a Windows 7 forum that might be able to point you in the right direction.
To put it simply think of a triangle. If you have all 3 parts of the triangle Windows 7 will activate your OS legally out of the box without needing to call M$ or go online ( assuming you stay within the limits of your TOS and install the same OS that came with your unit). If you are missing one piece of the triangle Windows 7 / Vista will not activate. Windwos XP uses SLP 1.0 for activation and instead uses oembios files instead of xrm-ms certificates. (if you are totally confused and I'm talking over you i'm sry)
1. If your computer is SLP 2.1 compatible with a bios (must be an oem manufacturer and can not be home built)
2. If you install the OS using the Royalty Key that was PACKAGED with the unit (not the sticker on the outside, but the actual internal key)... read here for the difference between royalty keys and retail keys - http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=5619. Did I mention that the version of the OS irrelevant? This is what is why you can use something for good (reinstall your os with the right licensing) or bad (reinstall a different os)
3. You have installed the correct xrm-ms certificate that goes with the hardware. I mention hardware because the certificate is hardware dependent not software dependent. A.K.A. there is 1 certificate per manufacturer across all hardware models (Same certificate will work with Home Premium and Ultimate, only the key is different)
This certificate was coded by the OEM manufacturer and legalized by M$ before the OS went "gold" and shipped out. So there are certificates for each manufacturer out there. These "loaders" you keep speaking of are designed to make it easier for you to activate windows 7... the only problem is that some of them are actually enabling you to pirate the OS by tricking the unit into thinking it's activated correctly. There is 1 particular "Windows 7 loader" out there that is highly illegal and should never be used, it actually installs a boot loader and tricks Windows 7 into activating by dumping the correct hashes into your computers memory before loading the OS.... hense while I'll shut up now and let you do more digging on your own.
YMMV... knowledge is power. Silence is golden... but duct tape is silver.
If you have more questions let me know via PM. -
looks like I scared everyone away
-
Indeed - you did. There isn't anything more I can contribute to the activation discussion - and I won't pretend to understand the inner workings ...
The good news is - anything and everything I have tried to activate Windows 7 on - has activated. All on the up and up, of course
I did cheat just a little bit by using an H-P laptop upgrade on one of my H-P desktops - but only because the desktop upgrade has not yet arrived. So, for H-P's - it looks like an H-P is an H-P as long as it's a recent H-P.
Can i use this key to activate windows 7 ?
