Hi guys! Im new to this site but here goes! I have a HP Pavilion dv2000
Spec:
Intel(R) Centrino Duo CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz (2 CPUs)
2046MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200 128MB
Conexant HD Audio output
120GB HDD
I was just wondering if i could run Windows Vista Ultimate?
I know my notebook is Vista capable cause it has the sticker and on the Vista site I meet the minimum spec to run Vista Ultimate:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/ultimate/default.mspx
On the Crucial website is says i would have no issues running Ultimate, but when I downloaded the Vista Upgrade Advisor tool it scanned my pc and said that Vista Basic is best for me??Im so confused and I dont want to buy Ultimate for it not to run properly!!
Can any one help me?
Thanks Laurie!![]()

Everything looks great, but I don't know if your Conexant HD Audio chipset is supported. If you read around the forum, you should notice that HP does not plan to support Conexant HD Audio Waikiki chipset, as they currently only provide drivers to Venice.
If your hardware ID matches the following, you are stuck with XP audio driver (not very compatible with Vista) or the generic default HD audio driver from Vista (the sound disappears upon wake up from Standy or Hibernation mode). Note that in either case, mics won't work properly.

You are welcome to join the fight against the big company that advertises their product as Vista Capable when it is a lie. -
ThunderRiver beat me to it. Ditto what he said. Your specs are fine for all of Vista's features... HP's driver support sucks.

my P4 1.7 gigz sony desktop can even run vista ultimate. and use aero too LOL. nvidia gefoce 5500 LOL

how long did u put you laptop to sleep? I want to test if its true what you just said bout mic won't work after hibernation. I am using xp audio driver of dv2000t, and everything is looking great.

I just reinstalled Vista, using the 32-bit version temporarily to test the XP driver. It does function, kinda. You do get sound and a working mic -- even after "waking up". You don't get the advanced HD Audio controls that Vista offers, presumably becuase the drivers were written for the old version of UAA as opposed to the new one Vista uses. So you lose all the cool "effects" and things that you could do with the Microsoft driver. Also, I haven't had it installed long enough to get much feel for stability or compatibility issues.
It's still incredibly piss-poor support not to get working on a proper driver, and I have 64-bit enhanced applications that I can't run in their enhanced mode as I'm stuck with a 32-bit OS at the moment. I can't decide what to do, at the moment, but I'm wishing I bought this notebook at Costco so I could return it. -
Ohh I didn't know that vista offers HD audio controls, what does it do? You mean the effects like Sound blaster environment effects?
Sorry to hear about the lack of drivers for 64bit. I hope it wil get fixed within the next couple of months or so, but then, we need to ask hp to hurry the hell up with the drivers for both vista -
If you stay with the default HD audio driver in Vista, mics will not work, but at least you don't get the lagging experience. I currently stick with my USB headset, and carry on Skype conversation just fine.
HP..you have done good this time. I learn the lesson, and no matter what, I will never purchase another HP or Dell machines again. -
Yeah, I'm starting to notice some of these annoyances, like the lagging. Also, while my notebook's internal mic works (after switching the recording setting in the sound control panel) you have to SCREAM at it to get it to do anything. As you said, skype would be a no go, as would voice recognition, or, for that matter just about anything you would use a mic for.
At this point I can't decide which is the lesser of two evils -- the problems with the Micorosft generic driver or the problems with the HP XP driver. Functionally, the HP XP driver is closer to working (albeit on 32-bit Vista only) but the sound quality is terrible by comparison. The Vista HD Audio environmental effects really did make a fairly large difference -- you could actually listen to music without it sounding like the HP tech support hold music on an old analog cell phone. -
i say call up the corporate offices about this issue. they're the ones that acknowledges issues and execute actions.

Your specs will run Vista fine. Welcome to the board -
Thanks guys! Wow what a quick reply!
So looks good then? I just want to know will the sound still work? Im not bothered about the mic working as i havent used it. I just need basic audio playback!!
My main concern was the GPU running Aero too slow but is should be ok right?
Thanks again guys!! -
I would recommend downloading the Vista driver for your appropriate system then clean install Vista and update drivers from the downloaded ones afterwards. The problems for me were the sound and card reader drivers.
Can my HP Pavilion run Windows Vista Ultimate??
