I use notebook in lot of quite settings, like library, classroom etc. Whenever it wakes up from sleep or hibernation, I have set it to go to logon screen for password entry. Whenever it logs on, it plays a sound that disturbs the enviornment. Problem is I cant lower volume or mute the speaker when I am at logon screen. I know I have the option to change the sound settings and set it to not play the sound when logging on, but I wanted to find out is it possible that whenever notebook sleeps or hibernates, it automatically mutes itself??

Well if you goto you control panel then to the sound settings. Goto the sounds tab and you can edit the settings for what sounds you want to play, just remove windows log on and log off.

to remove the sound select the item you wish to remove from the list, once selected look for a combo box(the drop down menu) it will have the name of the file it will end with a .wav... drop down the menu and select (None) from the list.

Another option is to select the No Sounds options, that why i have on normally. I turn the volume on the speakers all the way up and let all my application control their own volume.
