    Can replace Intel WiFi 5100 NIC Card on HP DV7T?

    Hello,
    I was just wondering b/c HP support cannot answer me. Can i purchase say the Intel 5300 WIFi card off eBay and pop it into my DV7T to replace the 5100 one that sux...
    I'm looking at maybe getting this card off eBay:

    the 5100 only uses 2 antennas so if you get the 5300 you won't notice any difference unless you find a way to install that extra antenna

    my 5100 is really powerful. what kind of speeds/reception are you getting?

    Well I was only getting max 65Mbps even right next to the router. There had to be something wrong going on. I updated the routers firm ware to latest 1.20. BTW this is a D-link DIR 655 N gigaport router. High end so there should be no issues.
    I was just curious about doing this. Just asking....

    yep there must be something wrong. crappy thing is hp only sends broadcom cards out as replacements for defective intel ones. the intel card is much stronger. i would try to buy a different 5100 on ebay if you can't troubleshoot your issue, or call hp and demand they send you an 5100 and not a broadcom. make sure your drivers are up to date for your router. it seems like maybe one of the antennas are not functioning on your wireless card, try taking off the hard drive cover, finding the intel card underneath the hard drive, and making sure everything is connected.
