Hi guy, anyone have any idea if we can boot from SD card, I am trying to install XP to my 16GB high speed SD I brought mainly for use with some old legacy serial port type apps .
as some of the programs wont run on vista I doubt VM would work either.

I am also getting inaccessable boot device when trying to run slipstreamed SP3 setup CD.

    Thanks

    No you can't.

But they would work in a VM. Especially VMware's Workstation 6.

Ok thanks 2.0 , Its a shame would be great to just pop a SD card in and boot from that for ease of use and speed, perhaps a seperate USB "SD Key" would work better as the hardware class would match HP's boot device, but will give WM workstation 6.5 a go.

Actually, you can boot from an SD card, but you have to put the SD card in a USB card reader, then boot it as a USB Hard Drive.

The "law" here is that every SD card we have (cameras, phones, palms, and so forth) is formatted to boot DOS and has (among other utilities) a copy of Ghost 2003 on it. That way, we can do a recovery of our hard drives from anywhere.

Anyway, we use this method to back up our laptops (booting from a SD card).

good to know it can be done, unfortunately the work around kind of negates the reason for using the SD card. I find SD cards small size much better than thumb drives.

Yes, that's true. But I figured the way he was asking it that he knew that this was possible but wanted to be able to boot from the card reader itself. Which would be ideal. Rather than having to buy a USB card reader.

Yes pretty much exactly that 2.0 would be great without messing about getting cables out of the laptop bag everytime and or usb sticks allthough no big deal its just a shame since the laptop has a great little card reader in it, reads my 16gb class 6 sd card great .
