Well, the fun has begun!........I attempted to register my new HDX18t for the upgrade, but it tells me:
    * Product Number
Sample: PQ877AS#ABA Please enter a valid and eligible Product Number

Well I went through the process of doing this but my serial tag has no such product number.

I call HP and we go through all the info.....check via windows......rebooted to bios.......all my numbers match but it still doesn't work.

HP tells me I have to contact Arvato (who is handling this for
HP) because they don't know why.

HP was very nice and helpful regarding this, but when I call Arvato......CS hell ensues.

Give them my info and they don't know what's up. I get some explanation that it's not in their system yet and they have to wait on HP. Then they take my info and tell me to retry in 5 days.

My issue is that I'm coming up on my 21 day RMA period and I don't want to send my unit back.....but I also don't want to be told that I was not eligble when I know I am.

So anyone haver any luck with this?

From what I can tell you should be eligible for Windows 7 if you got it after June 26th. Here's what I just found this morning looking for that same answer myself to get my mother a new laptop for her birthday.
Check this out, it says ALL Pavillions and HDX's!!!

Hope this will help clarify the situation and mabey bring this up next phone call!

I had the same problem also...
I did my homework about this and my guess is that all the CTO models are not included in the program YET 'cause after I used my S/N with a different product number (I tried the P/N of an HDX16t XXXXUS) I was able to move on to the next section, however I did not place the order entirely 'cause I'm afraid that it could be rejected since I'm using a different P/N with my S/N.
My advice is to give some time (I assume that more people will start to have the same situation and they should realize about that and fix the problem)

Today was my call back date.....sure enough same senario.....I told them that the program was put into place three weeks ago. Told that the codes were still being looked at. I think HP made a bad move contracting Arvato to do this for them. They wouldn't even give me a case number. I had to go through all the data and personal information thing all over with them again. Also, don't let me rant about the lousy VOIP connection. I had to give the letters in military style just so they would understand me.....call center somewhere over seas...I asked where they were located but was giving the company line that that info was not allowed to be given. We'll I guess another 5 days are in order....I'm still considering calling HP to complain!

Probably a silly question..but what will the upgrade do? What will be different? How does it work? (ie, if you upgrade do you lose all your settings and files?)

This will get you Windows 7 upgrade DVD for your system for no charge. The new DVD will come from HP with all the drivers and software required for your laptop as if you were buying a laptop with windows 7. I ran the RC for a few months and liked it very much. So why buy it on Oct. 22nd when I'm eligible for a free update from HP because I got a new HDX18 in July? If you got a new laptop....your eligible.

Worst case you get the free update and don't install it until your ready.

I see this a bit ridiculous! I ordered my dv3t on June 16, and it arrived June 22, merely 10 days purchased before the free upgrade applied. 4 days in my hands. Should I call HP and say I didn't hear about this upgrade until now??? I'm a bit pissed, because I shouldn't be denied within 10 days of not knowing!

Is it too late to return it? I think I heard somewhere they sometimes allow up to a month (don't know if this is from when ordered or when recieved). Otherwise I would just talk to them and tell them you didn't recieve it until sometime after the upgrade period begun..

They base it on order or ship date...which ever is latest. I'd try to do a return because the guys running the program are retards!

There has to be a hard starting date sometime for the program. If you want the upgrade you'll have to return the laptop.

I've been reading the same issues in other forums as well, so I contacted M$ about this and mentioned the problems with the upgrade program and Arvato.
This is bad for buisness and not to mention our crappy economy with all the people needlessly doing RMA's and other returns. I think the last thing M$ wants to do is **** people off again.
I hope this is resolved with in a month when I buy another new laptop.

It seems to me this is more of an issue with Arvato as opposed to an issue with Microsoft.

Right, but M$ farmed this work out, and will be ultimately the one to blame in everyones eyes. Wouldn't you want to know if one of your contractors was making you look bad?
There was the same problem with the Vista upgrade a few years back with a different contractor and was finally resolved.

I second that thought....I've called them twice and they wont even give me a case file to refer to when I call back.....so if I decide to call again I know that I'll have to give them my info all over again. They have yet to send me an e-mail to acknowledge my calls. I've been told call us back in 5 days....no go, call us back in 3 days....no go again.....This company is horrible....I wonder why HP chose them to do this for them....it was a bad choice and will hurt them.

I ordered the upgrade as well. The sticker on my HP dv2 has both product number and serial number. Scanned my receipt and uploaded it. All done...
