The 8510p is sold only with wireless ABG in my country. I want wireless N. Is it possible to replace the standard wireless adapter with the Intel 4965AGN card? Would doing so void the warranty?

Yes, you can. I am not sure about voiding the warranty. But it is possible. The only thing you need is the wireless N card.

I don't know if it would void the warranty, but the wireless card is literally one screw away on the underside of the machine. If you ever needed to send it in for repairs you could just pop the old wireless card back in and they'd never notice! :p

Unfortunately none of the manuals let you in on a dirty little secret of HP - A BIOS lock on non HP sourced wifi cards. Basically the BIOS has a whitelist and you can only install HP sold wifi cards even if the aftermarket ones are exactly the same as the ones HP provides. I dont know if this policy has changed or not but I would dig around a bit before buying a aftermarket wifi card.

For more info, read through this guide on how to get around this issue...

Thanks for the replies! The process of replacing the NIC seems unnecessarily complicated. I've asked HP about the BIOS thing but I don't expect them to be of much help. They're probably not going to recommend a 3. party product.
