    Hey all,
I just got the dv7-6143cl from costco for $874.00. It has 8gb ram, 6770, core i7 2630qm. Whenever I run can you run it from systemrequirements it only shows the integrated graphics, even after I manually set int. exp.exe to high performance. ANy suggestions to have it show the 6770? Thanks in advance.

You are describing the problem many, including myself, have had with that model. After spending countless hours with HP tech support, I ended up returning it for a refund as HP had no clue how to fix it.

Pop in a game and play it running fraps and lets us know the game, settings and frames per second

Play a game in power savings mode.
Then play it again in high performance mode.

If you see a drastic difference, then it's working properly.

well I put in sims 3 for my wife. She has all 8 sims 3 expansions and I cranked up every setting to the highest but it was only rinning at around 30fps. I toggled back to the windows screen with the wondows button and right clicked on the graphics settings and only the 1. Mobile R(HD) Intel Graphics. shows up. not a 2. whatever 6770. ANy help on how to do this. I used the configure graphics settings and assigned the sims 3.exe to high performance. Not sure what to do

If it is set to high performance you may need to restart the game for it to get better framerates.

If you arent sure if it is running on the 6770m you can download a tool called GPU-Z. In GPU-Z is a dropdown at the bottom for the different graphics cards. Set it to the 6770m then select the tab for the sensor monitoring. Click the box labeled update in the background then start your game. If the clocks and such increase while the game is running then the 6770m is being engaged.

Something I've noticed about the configure graphics option is that you may need to set both the executable for the game AND the shortcut (if that's how you start it) to high performance.

Not sure what you mean shortcut. I download all the expansions and then click on the last installed games icon, with that game in the tray.

    Thanks by the way!

Considering you got it from costco you probably have the manual switching, in that case there should be a setting in the catalyst control center that allows you to switch to the ati card

I did not get mine to work in games or 3D-software until I downloaded TRIXX and applyed the standard settings, with no overclocking. Wierd, I know.

I think his problem is that he's right-clicking on the taskbar icon for ati graphics (I get "1. Mobile Intel Graphics" too if I do that). He needs to right-click on the desktop and select "Configure Switchable graphics".

I did it from both-from the desktop it shows recent apps run then you assign them performance, or power saver or somthing like that. I have assigned the sims exe and all the exe's from the several sims games but it runs at like 15-30 fps with all the sims games settings maxed out. Seems like 1gb 6770 8gb ram and i7 2630 would do more than that

I had this same problem. HP now has a fix for all their laptops with switchable graphics. It is a BIOS fix, you can download it from the driver section of what ever laptop model you have, I have a dv7-6143cl (also from costco) This is a recent fix (June-Aug 11 depending on model). After you download the fix and run it, it will flash the BIOS and then reboot. Reboot the machine again and Then hit F10 while booting to go into BIOS setup, switch the Switchable Graphics section from DYNAMIC to FIXED. Then boot to your desktop, right click desktop, click Switch Configurable graphics, and you can select to have your dedicated card on all the time, or the integrated. You can also set to have the dedicated on all the time while plugged in and to auto switch to integrated on battery to save power. Hope this helps. I used GPUZ to verify card and it now shows up properly and with the right clock speeds, (it did not before).

you returned your laptop because canyourunit couldn't detect your 6770m?

and if you apply the BIOS update and run the laptop in Fixed mode using the 6770m, canyourunit actually does recognize it

You have to have a dv6-61XX (the 60XX only have fixed) and your BIOS version needs to be F.1A or higher. If you have those, look under "System Configuration" in the BIOS.

again if u have 60xx model, then it support only fixed mode.
check your laptop model, just look at laptop specification list printed on package, or check panel behind battery.

With the 60xx models, there will be no switchable graphic mode in your bios (although F.1A installs/works just fine). 'msi afterburner' ALSO WORKS JUST FINE, but needs to be setup correctly. The threads are so littered by inconsiderate posters with all their ridiculous coupon/ordering minutiae, any usable info is almost impossible to find.
