Hey guys, I want to buy a 22" monitor soon and I hear that the best resolution (and native resolution) for that size is 1680x1050, but I only have a dv6500t which maxes out at 1280x800. Will any 22" monitor upconvert my laptop's native resolution to the monitor's native resolution? If only some do, how can you tell? Also, will 1280x800 look horrible on a 22" monitor for non-gaming purposes? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

I want to run my dv6500t's 1280x800 resolution while i plug in an HP w2207 (22'inch monitor) through the HDMI port of the DV6500t and have the 22 inch monitor also ON and running at a 1680x1050 resolution.
My question is: will my laptop be able to do that? Or will the external monitor kick down to 1280x800 and not be able to be at 1680x1050? -
I don't know what the max for the laptop graphic card is... maybe a quick stroll over to the manufacture site will let you know... or maybe someone here with a similar setup will answer.... -
It's all in the hardware. If your monitor can handle the higher resolution, then it doesn't matter what your laptop can do. It's the monitor that's putting out the graphic not your computer.

a few questions:
1) when you hooked up the dv6500 to the monitor, was the dv6500 monitor also on or was it off?
2) if the dv6500 monitor was off while the ext. monitor was on, is there a way you can use both displays at the same time while at different resolution? -
2) I was wishing to find that answer on this forum or someplace else on the web.I could not figure it out... it had a couple of settings (I think three) that one was dual, which ran at the laptops resolution (and it sucked), next was notebook monitor, and then external monitor.

2. Yes, you can configure it in Display Options.

hey Lithus or jtmat, did you guys find a way to get both display working and ON at the same time, both at their own resolution (one at 1280x800 and one at 1680x1050)?
-
Yeah, Display Settings has individual settings for each monitor connected.
-
I had to play with it for a while, but figured it out... a little different than my desktop, but it is easy enough to go into settings and do it.
Had to change the background on the larger screen... hp one was small.
I really like this laptop. HP has done a great job. Bout the only bad thing I could say about this product is the fact that I can see myself when watching movies... the screen around the movie is black... looks odd. Guess I'll get used to it though. -
nice jtmat! can you tell me the specs on your dv6500? is it intel based or AMD?
when doing things on the external monitor, were things coming up slow or smooth? how was the quality? -
2 gb mem
8400 gs
Quality is very nice... I was surprised by the weight... I thought it was going to be heavy... even with the 12 battery it is fairly light. Well, much lighter than my compaq r3000z it replaces. It looks very well put togther, feels fine... keyboard is great... screen looks great as long as it is not black. When black, you can see yourself... that is the way they are made though... looks good when looking at images.
One of the things that surprised me, that no one hardly mentions, is the notebook's ability to play on large speakers... my old notebook did not do well at all on large speakers (with sub)... this notebook sounds great on large speakers...
While on the external monitor, I could not tell a difference. I loaded paint .net (graphic program) and edited some graphics... worked great... edited some word files.... great, etc. Nothing too hard core right now. This notebook is a temp until my 6500t arrives this week (long story, but getting another with same specs but with bluetooth, it was cheaper).
Matter of fact, I just purchased the quickdock... I hope quickdock is as good as a direct connect on the monitor and speakers...
I'm very happy with the purchase... I guess you could say this laptop is above my expectations... -
wait, what? what are you talking about lol... hehehehe... what computer do you use right now running the ext monitor? are you talking about a laptop or what?
im kinda confused.
do you have a dv65000t right now? -
jtmat, when you get the quick dock, let us know how it is, I am thinking of getting one and your review would be really helpful. Thanks

I think 1680x1050 is rather too small for a 22" monitor. I would be looking for 1980x1200.
Otherwise, the internal and external resolution on the monitor are independent of each other. There is no "upscaling" going on, because they are not the same display. Windows can handle using more than one display, and each can run at their own resolutions. If you are mirroring them, then you will run into some limitations, but mirroring is a waste unless you are giving a powerpoint presentation.
Set your internal to 1280x800 and your external to whatever the native resolution is. I would also make sure you are using a DVI cable, not a VGA. VGA will give you a crappy picture. You can convert the HDMI port to a DVI port by using an adapter you can get for less than $10.
Can you upconvert the DV6500t 1280x800 res. to a 22" 1680x1050 monitor?
