My DV2416us BIOS doesn't show the CD option when I boot! The BIOS setup does show it (I've moved it to the top), but when I actually boot it doesn't appear as an option. I have the latest BIOS from June.
I searched this site (why isn't there an "advanced search"?!) and found somebody with a similar problem on a Toshiba, which was solved by installing the correct "firmware".
Perhaps that refers to correct drivers, which makes some sense since I don't seem to have proper ones since the DVD r/w drive only appears as read only. Problem is I don't see any drivers on the HP site for my drive.

Actually I wouldn't have thought drivers even come into play (other than ATAPI...) so early in the boot process, so I'm really confused. I still would LIKE to find those drivers, but suspect that is a separate problem from the no-cd-boot.

    ANYBODY HAVE ANY INSIGHT?

    Thanks.

Sometimes optical drives may only show up as a reader in Windows until you put in a writable disc...what disc are you specifically trying to boot from? Are you sure its bootable?
