    Hello all,
I have a brand new DV6253CL and when I use the Recovery Manager to create the default restores it says that I do not have a compatible DVD burner.

I contacted HP and they were totaly useless. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the computer would say this?

BTW, yes the laptop does come with a DVD burner.

Are you able to burn DVDs thru Nero or some other program? If yes, then you can try and trick the recovery manager by installing a virutal DVD burner...I don't know if this can work, just throwing ideas.

Check Device Manager. Maybe a clue to this unfortunate problem lies there...

Everything in the device manager looks fine. Nothing out of the ordinary and no unknown devices.

Yes, I am able to burn DVD's and CD's. I actually used Acronis Backup manager to create some custome restores and it worked perfectly.

I am interested about the virtual DVD burner. I take it this is different from Daemon Tools?

What type of media are you using, DVD+R or DVD-R or DVD-RW. Some posters have complained that the recovery disc creation cries foul when either RW or -R are used. Not sure why anyone would want to use RW, but the -R issue is a genuine problem for some. Granted this is a long shot, but what the hell. If you have a couple of extra +R's or -R's hanging around, try each and see if that makes a difference.

I know it only takes +R. Currently all I have is -R but it gives the error no matter what type of media you have in there (CD-R, DVD-R, or nothing). so the issue is not media related. In fact it gives the error before even trying to access the DVDRW drive. This is clearly an issue of the recovery software being messed up.

As much as I like HP's you would think that they would test this feature on every laptop before selling it to customers. I guessed I hoped for too much :rolleyes2:

I had the same problem when using DVD -R, it doesn't tell you what type it wants-it just gives up (after urging you it is sooooo important to create the discs haha)....with all the bloatware in today's windows OS....you'd think they could be a little more um, helpful.

    Sheesh.

    um....cutting to the chase here:

have you ever put a +R in and run the routine from square 1 to see if it in fact works just fine with +R media?
