I have a dv7t with a Fujitsu 250GB 5400rpm HDD. I've tried multiple programs including HWMonitor and non of them are able to tell me what my HDD temp is. Why can't I monitor my HDD temps?

    Thanks

Well, dont have a one answer to your question, but it could be a lot of things. My Fujitsu(MHZ2320BH G2) doesn't show the temps either and I have tried it on two different systems. I have seen other people with the same HDD as mine capable of displaying the temps. So, it might be a firmware issue or chipset driver issue. Try to find updated chipset drivers or if there are any firmware updates to your particular model(unlikely) on fujitsu's website.

Ok thank you. I'll check around for those updates. My HDD is fujitsu mhz2250bh g2 so it looks like we have similar models. Since yours is so similar to mine, could you tell me if you ever thought about upgrading to a 7200rpm HDD? I was thinking about it, but it seems that our HDDs are pretty good and perform well for a 5400rpm drive. What do you think?

    Thanks

Actually, I upgraded from a 160GB 7200rpm Hitachi to this one. The Fujitsu originally was in my hp tx2500 and since I use the T400 more often, I swapped the drives (needed the extra space on my main system). Benchmarks indicate better access times for the 160GB 7200rpm HDD but in real world use I dont find the Fujitsu any slower. I would rather wait for the SSD's to come down to a reasonable price than upgrade to a 7200rpm HDD now.

Oh, I see. Ok thanks. I agree that it's better to just wait for SSDs.

So regarding the temp monitoring, I just checked Fujitsu's site and couldn't find any updates so now I'll look for an update to my chipset driver.

Yeah, but unfortunately I think its firmware issue with the particular series or batch and so Fujitsu most likely have to fix the problem which I dont expect them to do.
