I removed Windows Vista Basic and successfully built a Windows XP Pro system on my Compaq Presario C509NR notebook. This has one 80GB sata drive partitioned into a C and a D drive. Now I’m trying to clone that system onto another C509NR using Acronis True image. I clone the first drive onto an external ata hard drive and then use the Acronis emergency boot disk to clone that drive onto the new C509NR. But when I try to boot off of that I get a BSOD stop x’7B’. I’ve used Acronis to clone all sorts of drives, but this doesn’t work. Any idea how to get around this? I intend on getting rid of that recovery partition but don’t want to do it until I’m able to successfully clone the drive. I also made recovery disks if I have to go back to Vista on either notebook. Any idea why I can’t boot off the cloned drive or what I can do to make it work?
    Thanks,
    Al

Instead of using the clone feature, make a full backup, and save that to your external drive, and then restore it to your second C509NR.

No luck with the full drive backup. I used no compression on the acronis backup and still get the stop x'7b'. I really would like to get rid of that small recovery drive. But the boot ini file is on that, the small 'C' partition, not on the D partition that takes up most of the drive. Do you have any idea how I could consolidate those partitions and still have a chance of booting into XP?
