Can't decide, AMD Turion 64 ML-37 or AMD Sempron 3300+
I'm making my v2000z purchase in 1-1/2 hours before HP changes its price, which they do cotinuely.

Is the Turion 64 ML-37 so much better than the Sempron 3300+??
The Turion will add $110 (with tax) to the price.
Is it worth it? I won't be playing games, but a lot of DVD ripping and video conversion. Also, very soon a lot of video editing with Premiere.
Will the Turion give me that much extra power. for $110 extra

I personally used a v2000z w/ a Sempron, and it was hot. I think the Turion runs cooler. I don't know about speed differences, though.

Could there have been some problem with your v2000z sempron, cause I've never heard of heating problems on it before.
Would there be any difference in heat between Sempron 3000+ and 3300+?

Yikes, I need to make up my mind soon...HP changes prices everyday...I have been waiting for this price brake - it's not that cheap, but I can't keep on waiting...

I don't know if something were wrong with it or not. I didn't keep it because I wanted something cheaper, which I got today. HP will have new discounts starting March 5 (that's what they told me), so I think you can wait. I hope someone who has compared the processors in these notebooks can help you out.

Any guesses as to how much they will discount, casuse if there is no v2000z discount it won't matter to me... how come they told you this

I'm only interested in the v2000z becuse of the looks, 14.1' screen and its size(will be traveling with it), also the GPU...at this price all lappies have crappy GPUs, the v2000z being an exception.

I would take ML37. It's 64 bit and is considerably faster. It will give you better battery life because it uses less power at lower voltages and besides that undervolts nicely. Ml-34 is also better than Sem 3300+ IMO, so if you want to save some bucks, downgrade it one step

Get the Turion. The Sempron s fine for basic tasks and according to common belief will run as cool/hot and give the same range of battery life as the Turion. If you do want something cheaper you could consider the ML32 or 34. These are also good value and will outperform any of the Semprons.

    Thanks everyone.

The problem with adding a Turion is that if I get the cheaper one, I might as well go all the way for the 2Ghz...and then I start to consider other lappies in this price range.
I guess, in the back of my mind, I want to hear that the difference is not that great...but now...ahhhhh
If HP just drops the $69 (with tax alsmost $80??) shipping to free, I could go for the Turion!
I guess I'll just have to wait, like I've been doing for these past three months.

I would suggest that you wait a couple of days. These last few days, HP shopping underwent some weird and illogical changes, which to my mind will be undone soon. I find no logic in pushing up the prices, eliminating free shipping and other discounts, and charging tax on top of it all, for a notebook that is probably in its last few months of sale (v2000z).

Btw, did you try customizing it from Costco? No tax there, as far as I know

ML-34 or ML-37 without a doubt. 1MB cache definitely helps with the tradeoff between speed and power consumption mode.

I personally go ML-37. It is much cooler indeed on your lap. 59c is the highest temp I saw during Prim95 Turt test @ 2.0GHz. When it goes to 1.8G, the fan rarely ticks. Of course, you should undervolte to get cooler and quite. I haven't seen Seprem undervolte report yet. Can it?
