I just received a new dv6500t from HP last week to make up for the broken v3000z that I sent in which never made it back to me. Anyway, I'm considering requesting a dv2500t instead because of the screen size/bulky factor. Does anyone have experience carrying a 15.4" lappy around all day? I've seen them side by side, on top of each other etc and the difference doesn't seem to be all that much but when I picked up my 6500t for the first time, I was surprised at how big/heavy it was. Thoughts/opinions? Thanks.

Well, if you think the dv6500t is heavy you should compare it to a dell 1500. I think the HP 6500 is very small/portable for a 15.4". Do you have the 12 cell battery? That will add considerable weight/bulk to the dv6500. The only thing to worry about with the dv2500t is the heat factor. It has been expressed by many users that the dv2500t will get warmer then its bigger brothers. Thats enough to keep me away from the smaller size. I feel my dv6500t is portable enough to carry with its 6 cell extended life battery. But If I keep the BT on, the battery life is bad. I don't use the BT when I travel.

I owned a DV6000z, which is the same size and weight as the dv6500 series. I carried it all around with me and used it all over the place and I thought it was the perfect size for a portable machine. I have a Dell Latitude D620 for my work laptop which has the 14.1 screen and it is lighter than the DV6000, but not by much. I would say to stick with the dv6500 for a couple reasons. You are probably not used to the weight increase, but the longer you use it the less you will notice it. Depending on the specs of your dv6500, it is probably a better laptop than the dv2500, and if you got it for free stick with the better one.

How does the weight of the dv6500t compare to the vostro 1500?

From the specs, it looks like the vostro is about a half pound heavier than the dv6500t. I didn't really think about the heat factor yet but it makes sense.

thanks for all the help. I tried carrying the dv6500t around for a few days and it doesn't seem to be all that much worse in terms of weight/bulk. Think I'll just stick with it.

I own a 15.4" HP Compaq nw8440. Not only do I haul it to my classes, I also haul some textbooks with it without issues. I don't think it's that heavy at all; it's about on par with an average textbook in terms of weight, and sometimes, even lighter :). Then again, I'm used to carrying "heavy" backpacks from high school, so what may seem normal to me may seem unbearably heavy to others.
As far as bulk, I don't find it bulky at all; I have a Targus backpack with a 15.4" notebook pocket, and it's not much bigger bulk-wise than the backpacks I used in high school.

BTW, the nw8440 weighs about 5.9 Lbs. I imagine the dv6500 series is around there, give or take a few tenths of a pound (I don't remember off the top of my head).

So, unless you're really picky about weight and portability, I would stick with the dv6500t. It may take some time getting used to, and if you still can't get used to it, you can go to the dv2500t series.
