The USB ports on my HP NC4000 got loose, and I would like to correct that problem. However when I tried to disaasemble the laptop by removing all the visible screws (including the one under the hard drive), it wouldn't open. Something is holding the back cover on the side where the PCI slot is. Does anybody have disassemble instructions for NC4000? Or could somebody maybe tell me what else I need to do besides removing the visible screws in order to get to the connectors of the USB ports?

If you wanna get to the USB, r
emove the hard drive screw, the screw of the keyboard and the two screws of the led light board.
Then take the hard drive out,
    turn the laptop upward,
take off the led light board by using a flat bed tool to pull from the ESC key side first and toward the other end.
Then remove the keyboard and there you go.
I've done it about 20 times with my NC 4000 so I'm sure it works.
Yeah, the USB ports is the only thing that I can complain about this lappy. the power of the USB is not stable and it cant recognise other huge power consumption device like external hard drive (400GB).
    Goodluck

OK. Removed the hard drive, the led light board, and the keyboard, but I still don't see the place where USB ports are connected to the system board. Am I missing something?

I just dissembled the laptop but never got to play with the USB ports. I think the USB ports connectors are right underneath the LED/Button boards but I dont have the gut to touch anything there. I got problems with the USB ports and the HP reps told me that I need to replace the whole motherboard to fix any USB related problems so I just leave it. Sorry couldnt help
