When I try to run it, i get the message:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Also, anyone know why i can't uninstall microsoft works?

...probably b/c it's a Friday. Vista does not allow installations/uninstallations to happen until 11PM MTD time on Fridays.

    No, he's kidding.

Chango, it is probably a corrupted file within the installation directories of the O.S. that are used when installing new programs and drivers. Is this the first time you have received this message on an install? Did you do any hard boot prior to this install or lost power and the laptop was switched off without proper shut down procedures?

You may try putting your Vista disc in and booting from the disc, then running the "fix" tool it provides. This generally clears up any corrupted files that may have occurred. Just make sure you re-run a Microsoft update afterwords as sometimes files are reverted in order to fix corrupted or missing files in the system.

As for the Works problem, I am not sure why it is not unistalling...

I don't have my laptop right now, just stating that atm. Some background info, i just got this laptop yesterday, and tried to clean it up a bit. Could not do a clean install, mostly because i was heavily confused, but also, i don't have any vista installation discs... so i can't do booting from Vista either. I just uninstalled the bloatware manually and ran decrapifier/ccleaner/revo uninstaller. I tried installing last night and this morning, no luck, both after computer restarts. For the microsoft works, it says i don't have enough administrative power to do it or something? I can't recall right now, and won't have the laptop available until 4 hours later.

You need to be in an admin profile to install/uninstall stuff

^+1 agreed with Flipfire (recurring trend here lol)

Check your control panel to see if your current account is setup up as the administrator or not. As for the discs, assuming you didn't unistall it, HPs come with a program in the Recovery Manager folder in the all programs list of the start menu that allows you to build and burn recovery discs, you can then edit those files from the disc to slipstream updates and or remove pre-installed software. Otherwise, if it did get unistalled some how, you will need to contact HP to order new ones. Normally for regular 5 to 7 day snail mail, it is only about $5 to $10 or you can expedite it and get it within 1 to 2 business days for about $30.

Hm, i only have one profile, so i thought i was admin. I'll have to check later. Also with the discs, i did burn a set of recovery discs, but i don't have Vista discs. I was told my HP doesn't have a Windows Anytime Upgrade somewhere in my harddrive, and neither was it sent to me with my computer. So i couldn't burn any Vista discs. They aren't the same thing right? Or am i not understanding correctly...

Not anytime UPGRADE, a RECOVERY console...lol
Windows automatically creates an account called "Administrator"
During install/first time setup it should ask for your name, a username, a password and stuff but I'm not sure. Try doing it under the admin account.

edit: i believe the default user accounts manager in the "friendly ui" mode will hide the default admin account...or at least it does in XP 32
