I trawled through the Device Manager, downloaded the Intel Chipset Identification Utility and also used RightMark CPU Clock Utility but I still cannot find out what my chipset is. On Device Manager, the device description that would tell me the chipset is missing, while for both Utilities, the result of "Unknown" came up.
My laptop is HP Pavilion dv5-1102tx.

Its an Intel ICH9 (which from the looks of it has been renamed to Intel 400 chipset). This should be the correct download.

Use the INF update utility (not the ZIP version) to install your chipset.

Have you tried CPU-Z , click on mainboard, it should show in the chipset box

OMG, CPU-Z actually worked!
Having 3 methods fail to show me what the chipset was, I carelessly assumed that CPU-Z would be the same. Thanks Tinderbox!
However, it makes me wonder why even the official Intel Chipset Identification Utility (old and latest versions) failed to tell me what my chipset is. -
PCWizard from CPUID will tell you every single thing about your computer.
