Does your disk have sp2 slipstreamed?

Is it occuring after it boots off the CD? If so it is because windows XP does NOT recognize your SATA controller (because it was released after XP). There should be an option in the BIOS to disable "NATIVE SATA". The drives will work and XP will see them. (at least it does on DV8k series) (this is easiest option)

Your other option is to purchase a USB Floppy drive and locate your SATA driver. When windows setup starts, you will see "Press F6 to install..". Do this and it will load the SATA driver from a floppy. THEN windows will see your SATA drives.

OR --- you can create a custom windows install disc. Look up websites that guide you through unattened installs and you can integrate the SATA driver on to your own custom made windows install disc. This is by far the most time consuming option.

Or you can use the original factory restore discs.

If you do, windows will fail to see your hard drive again :(

Maybe there is some way to install the driver after the fact. I did a battery of tests to determine a performance difference between native sata on or off.

The difference was less than 5%. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. Your system will not feel any different.

Yes, there is a way to re-install the SATA driver, once Windows is up and running.... Link should be in the thread one post up.

Nothing personal, but your thread you linked is wayyy too disorganized. You have good information but it is to spread out and it is all over the place.

I could find no insctructions for installing the SATA driver AFTER windows was installed clean.
