    This is so weird.
The BR Drive is Optiarc BC-5500S, and I have PowerDVD 8 Ultra
I just bought the BR documentary "Earth The Biography" by BBC from Amazon.

Whenever I want to play the movie, PDVD 8 just give me a blank screen.

I did some research that some people claimed it's HP's QuickPlay problem. But I don't have it installed.

Also some claimed it's the firmware however I would guess it's difficult to see a firmware update from either SONY or HP ;)

I turned off NVIDIA PureVideo, but still no go.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. :D

Nope. I have PowerDVD 8 Ultra as well. And my dv5t plays BluRays perfectly. I have the same brand BluRay, the Optiarc which is by Sony/NEC model I believe.

Do me a favor...when you open PowerDVD, does the BluRay icon appear? Is it there with all the other icons? It should be on the left lower corner below the sexy blond chick.

That should show whether or not your PowerDVD software is BluRay enabled.

Yup. Both BD and HD DVD are there. There are 21 icons total.

And BD region is A. I don't think that movie is region coded though.

I guess nobody had this problem then?
Anyone would like to share their blu-ray experience on this laptop?
