    Hello all,

First post in this forum, and I've got a few questions.

Future shop here in Canada currently has 2 Envy 14 models in tow - the 14-1050 and the 14-1150.
    The main differences are:

    Older 1050ca:
    • core i5-430m Processor
    • 640gb 5400rpm HDD
    • 1600x900 Radiance Display
    • Price: $1479.00 (after BB price match)

    Newer 1150ca:
    • core i5-460m Processor
    • 640gb 7200rpm HDD
    • 1366x768 Brightview Display
    • Price: $1299.00 (after BB price match)
    (everything else is the same)

So what's the better deal? Radiance Display or Better processor/faster Hdd/$200 extra in my pocket

Basically... How good is this radiance display? is it worth paying an extra $200 and sacrificing CPU and HDD speed?

    Thanks a bunch!

the higher-res screen does look quite nice
and if you don't plan on upgrading to a SSD, the 7200 RPM drive makes quite a difference

personally, I'd go with option 2.. better performance, and I hook up an external 24" to my envy anyways.. when I'm on the go, I don't really do anything that would call for the Radiance display

The best display to chose, also depends on your eyes. Some get eyestrain, or headaches after using a high density display for a while, and the Radiance screen is high density. The 1366x768 has 108 PPI, while the 1600x900 has 126 PPI.

The 126 PPI is perfectly legible for most people, and no problem for short periods, but some will have difficulty using it for a longer period of time, especially for apps like Excel spreadsheets.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

I have an observation : the 1050 has always been advertised as having a 1366x768 display (even though it's got a 1600x900 Radiance) --- so it wouldn't be too crazy to hope that the same mistake was made for the 1150 would it?

I'm going to ask them to pull out a new 1150 from the box - I need to know if it has the new screen as I'm getting an Envy tomorrow. I'm leaning towards the older one with the radiance screen, but if the new one has it too there is NO reason not to get it!

Anyways, wish me luck - I'll let you all know what happens.
