I've been finding it difficult to find reviews for certain laptops because I'm in Canada and many that have been reviewed have US model numbers. What about HP? Are their Canadian and American model numbers different? I've been unable to find many reviews about the dv4040.

Search for reviews for notebooks starting with the dv4xxx model numbers. The retail models all have different model number endings. The 'dv' and the first number(4) will be the same. So a laptop with a model number starting with dv4030us is a retail model of the dv4000 series. Some of the laptop features like the processors, RAM, might vary but are in the same family(group) so performance also will be in the same range. Other components like the screen the case, keyboard are the same.

HP does not sell customizable laptops in Canada, so they are just the retail versions with different configs.

    Libby,

Miner is correct, there are just some minor differences in the model#'s and unit configs, but they're generally the same system. The best thing to do is look at a review for the dv4000 series and that'll give you a good enough idea of how the unit handles. You can then just lookup performance numbers on the different specs of the unit (video, CPU, etc...).
