    Greetings everyone

well i've got some probs with my windows recovery ( HP envy 17 3d ) and hope someone can help me out :)

As i experienced some issues with the riad 0 utility (one of the harddisks kept failing sometimes,i was able to fix it trough Intel raid storage by simply clicking on reset to normal on the filed HD ) but it really kept getting disturbing as it caused freezes spikes and programs failure so i decided to disable the raid utility (tbh i really dont need a raid on my system)

So ran a back up and saved stuffs, Created a set of recovery disks and restarded the PC, went through RIADOROM and reseted the raid to normal (just did whatever exactly as it was written on the user manual), Then put the rec disc and ran the System Recovery option the recovery manager. Everything went good and after the disks installation finnished it reboot my computer, i took the disks and was waiting to system boots through the harddisk to continue the procces ...
BUT it did not :( keeps giving me the "no bootable device -- insert the boot disk and press any key", i tried to boot again through the rec disk and ran the system recovery again, after installation nad reboot ... same prob, tried to find any options for harddisks configuration in the BIOS or RIAD OROM but found nothing, so i'm confused how to make the system boots through the HD to continue recovery progress, if u have any solution it'd be great if u can share :)

    Best Regards

Takes two things to disable RAID. 1. Leave it on in the bios...reboot and hit Ctrl-I. Once in the RAID configuration, you can hit DEL to delete the existing array. Now reboot...enter bios and turn off RAID. Now you can install recover the system and have TWO separate drives. Make sure to install to drive on SATA 0. Is this what you are intending to do?

thx for the reply, well i just followed the manual instruction, after the first reboot went to BIOS --> system configuration and changed RAID OROM to enable (nothing else) saved changes then after the secound reboot used CTR-I to enter RIAD configuration and selected "3.Reset Disks to Non-RAID" (not the delete raid option), reset RAID window dispaled and i picked my two harddisks then reboot again to insert the recovery disks etc.

i searched through the BIOS but found no option to change/set up a raid or anything related wich was odd but there was nothing to change ... alrdy going to try ur suggestion on the owner's lounge

Well i created the raid volume, both hards are member disk and green and Volume0 with 1.8 TB capacity and bootable, went to BIOS,i know its strange but still i cant find any options about RAID in the BIOS.
System configuration in the BIOS only includes "Language, Virtualization Technology, Fan always on, Action keys mode, RAID OROM UI and finaly Boot Options.
I deleted the raid and now got two 931.5GB hards on port 0 and 1, Non-RAID Disk. going to try another system recovery to see if they'r still un-bootable in separate form or not ...

updated ------- still cant boot from separate disks and there is no RIAD option in my BIOS setting ... maybe i should just craete a RAID0, restore the windows and update my BIOS ?

updated -------- tried to run a system recovery on the RAID0 hards, after the first installation part reboot and taking out the recovery disk .... again, nothing boots from the Harddisks ... now i really dont know what do do with this ...

so now my problem is "No bootable device insert boot disc and press any key" error after trying to recovery windows :S

I wrote this guide some time ago...HP was sending out machines that had the SSD / HDD combo in RAID..which was just wrong. After recovery, many people could not boot their machines with an OS. Your case sounds very similar...This guide is a step by step on how to repair the boot sector after doing recovery. If you want two separate drives...follow the guide. It should get you back up and running...

    Happy reading...

I had a similar issue with my ENVY 17 2D version. Couldn't restore to either RAIDED disks or non RAIDED using HP recovery DVD's. I even tried other hard discs. HP support suggested a motherboard issue, so I returned it for a replacement. The replacement came, I un RAIDED it as I wanted to stick in an SSD and the HP recovery system worked without issue. I can only assume my original ENVY was faulty as HP suggested with the motherboard.

YEAH WORKED PERFECTLY :) THX A LOT DUDE
actually as i dont have a windows 7 disk after performing recovery installation went to try the removing of the recovery disk during loading phase, didnt work as i recieved some kind of 0.000blabla error with only a continue option resulted in rebooting the system, next time i let the loading finnishes and went to recovery manager --> run computer checkup --> open a command prompt, and executed the lovely commands (BootRec /FixBoot, BootRec /FixMbr), reboot and removed the recovery disk ... YAAAY STUPID COMPUTER MANAGED TOO BOOT FROM HARD =)) then continued to windows setup and created the secound volume on my system and everything is just fine.

Well the guide really did help me out,u did me a great favor :) let me thank u again & wish u a happy Christmas.

I was worried that it be a hardware prob, as i'm on a trip with multipe destinations and i'm not able to send the laptop for replacements, but thankfully managed to solve the boot prob through Bobmitch's guide, hope it'd be the last issue i've had with my envy :)( i bet tommorow a purple smoke will pop out of the VGA fan ) :p

Hey, great news. Yes, sometimes the ideas on this forum more helpful than HP support.
