I have a DV6110US. I have already made my recovery discs , when I did so it did not delete the D drive. I am now upgrading to Vista and the upgrade utilty disc says it cannot delete the recovery partition. It says to reboot and try again. I have and it still cant delete the partition. I also tried the RPremoval.exe in the windows folder and same lack of results. Any ideas?

These partitions are usually protected. You might have handled this already, but I will at least mention it. Get to your BIOS setup utility by holding down F1, or whatever key HP uses to interrupt boot, right when the computer starts to boot( before Windows starts ). You should come to a curses/text based menu. Navigate this menu to find a configuration for "pre-desktop" or "recovery" partition. From there you want to choose whatever option disables it. Finally, and this is important, get back to the main screen and choose an option resembling "SAVE AND EXIT" or "SAVE AND REBOOT". If you feel like you messed with the wrong thing, there should always be an option to restore to defaults. Once it is disabled, you can reclaim it with any partition editor or even mount it from a Windows partition. I don't have experience with HP in particular, but this is the process I used on my IBM T42. I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

If you're UPGRADING to Vista and not full install from the beginning it might be a little difficult.

You have to go to Control Panel/Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management then you'll see the HP_Recovery drive, right click and choose your option. I would suggest to use this partition for your data files and what nots.

Good luck in getting the extra space.
