I have a Compaq presario V5000 series with windows xp about 4 years old. It has been running fine on wireless for years until a few days ago. I was getting a code 10 but now it doesnt even appear in the device manager anymore. Also, I still get resource conflict screen at startup. If I hit F1 everything starts up as normally but no broadccom!
Heres what I did so far.
    Destructive recovery
    reinstalled windows
installed updated drivers for broadcom and bios.
    defraged
    changed wireless card

Anyone have any ideas? thanks

Destructive Recovery - Please explain what you did.

Reinstalled Windows - Complete new install of windows using retail media or windows install from your recovery discs or repair of windows XP using a retail disc or recovery discs?

If you installed Windows XP from retail media or for that matter using your recovery discs and installed the correct drivers for your wireless card and the card is still not recognized I would suggest you have a hardware problem of some sort.

When you indicate " changed wireless card" what did you do? Did you try to use a different wireless card in a pc card slot?

I followed instructions to do a destructive recovery. Thats all I really know.

I used the recovery discs to reinstall windows xp.

I bought a used wireless card to try and see if it made a difference. I also did a hard drive test, which it passed. For some reason, my computer does not recognize my broadcom. It does not show up in the device manager. It did a few days ago but had a yellow ! next to it.

I of course used the recovery disc that came with the computer, hoping it would reinstall everything. I still get black screen at start up with resource conflict.

I had the same problem with mine but with Win7. I reinstalled the older driver and seems to be working. Uninstall the Broadcom from Add/Remove. Reboot. Install the older driver and reboot again and the card should be recognized. I believe the new driver is the culprit, it keeps disappearing when rebooted or coming out of hibernation.

Someone I know suggested I try to us a Wireless-G USB adapter. So, I did and it works fine now. Very happy
