According to wikipedia..Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP's) have an almost infinite service lifetime when protected from the sun.

Does this mean when exposed to the sun too often the chassis of the Envy 133 will die or be damaged?

Quality of the chassis is degraded.

Substantially? Will it still be feaseble to use or will it be deemed dead weight?

Also if the quality is degraded I sure hope the warranty covers it.

I doubt substantially. I wouldnt worry about it unless you live in a desert.

Hmm alright. I guess you're right, most of laptop usage should be in-doors but I'd hate having to worry about using it out-doors due to the sun. Time will tell I guess.

Thanks for your time in reading and replying. :)

Another quick question though a bit off topic (don't desire to make a new thread), when will the Envy 133 be available for ordering?

I'm sure the clear coat/coating on the carbon fiber will protect it. Similar to how carbon fiber cars are just fine out in the sun because they're painted.

Its not completely carbon fibre, just reinforced. The ThinkPad T series' outer shell have been using that for the last year or so. (T61) It doesn't mean that it is extra strong or anything, the outer shell just wont shatter or snap like standard plastics do, being durable whilst also being light weight.

^^ Its full on carbon fiber actually- Just like whats used on Car's hoods etc for performance, and Sun shouldnt be an issue whatsoever, There are cars with carbon fiber hoods that sit in the sun all day long.

Yeah, modders/tuners put carbon fiber all over their cars and they don't suddenly fall apart. Besides, your car is out in the sun WAAAAY more than your laptop will ever be.

They put carbon fibre all over their cars because the carbon fiber weave acts as the tension member and the adhesive/resin is used as the compression member. This is why it is used. You cant have any structure with just carbon fibre. In real life when you feel it and use it, it isa cloth like material, and it is not structural at all. This is why it can be cut with a pair of scissors and used on curvy surfaces. The resin is what makes it a wonderful material. The resin seeps through the holes in the weave conforming the material to whatever the substrate may be. Since the resin is liquid, it seeps into all of the holes in the weave and makes a very hard but brittle surface. I say brittle, cause when the compression member fails, the carbon fibre is completely weak and will rip very easily.
Rahul will say it is all carbon fibre but he obviously doesnt know how it is made. You cant have one without the other. It is the same as concrete and rebar. the concrete is like the resin and the rebar is like the carbon fibre, in a structural sense. without one or the other, the system is very weak and will crumble very easily.
The finish on carbon fibre is usually textured, and shines because it is the resin which you are feeling. The resin can be used in exterior environments, so you shouldnt worry about hazing. however if you use rubbing alcohol, or gasoline or any substance like that near your laptop, or on your laptop, than you will have problems, since they will dissolve the resin and cause hazing to occur.

Yeah but the main reason they use Carbon Fiber on cars because its Lighter than anything else. But as stated the Carbon Fiber made of Graphite Filaments can then be put onto plastic resin which will create a very good strength to weight tension.

FYI, carbon fiber can also refer to carbon fiber reinforced plastic, which is what is probably being used.

This is all correct, except for that comment about Rahul. CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic, which is carbon fiber + resin) is most often referred to as just carbon fiber outside of technical use. You were accusing them of using a normal plastic case and printing a carbon fiber design on it "like a pavilion". Rahul refuted this by saying it was just carbon fiber.

He obviously didn't mean it was strands of carbon fiber with no resin, just that the shell is not made from ABS or whatever. Jeez.
