Ok, i have a r3000t with one of those 5in1 card readers, this is the first time i have tried to use it (with an SD card) i put it in, and the computer came up with a driver install, i went through the process and hit finish, then it came up with an error went something along the lines of "the driver is not functional" and it just dosent work. Compaq dosent have a driver download for it.

No its a driver service pack for the notebook. Maybe HP dosen't call them service packs buts its an install for the card reader driver. I'm not talking about Service Pack 2 for windows. I think its like a 3.5MB file.
