The card reader on my new 6000 series Pavilion laptop gives every indication that it is working and even lists the SD card as a removable object in the window where you stop and remove them, but I can't access the card to retrieve files. On my other machines it shows up as a removable drive in "My Computer" or it throws the dialogue box up there with choices as to what I want to do with the card. I bought a USB SD card reader and it does EXACTLY the same thing; installs the driver, knows the card is there but it won't let me access the files on the card. Other SD cards won't work either, and this card works well in other machines. I have no idea what to do about this. HP support has been no help at all.

I see HP has an updated Media Card Reader driver on their zv6000 support page. While your specific problem isn't shown in the fixes list, they don't always list everything they did. It's worth a shot? Check for updated drivers for that USB SD card reader you bought too.
