My HP laptop came with a bunch of stickers on the inside case (palm rest) that serve no real purpose other than to tell me what my laptop has. Is there anyway to safely remove them without breaking the sticker or leaving gunk behind? Can you just peel them off or do you need chemicals (GooGone)? Should I just leave them? Thanks.

I just pulled them off slowly and there was no residue.

If there is residue left, Baby Oil is the best thing to use to remove it. Yes, I'm serious.

I used a hairdryer from a foot or so away to slowly heat them up. This work but you have to be careful how close and how hot. Good luck

Not too long ago there were threads where people were complaining that their computers were missing stickers or had the wrong Centrino stickers. They were even buying stickers on ebay to put on their computers. Now I see a bunch of people looking for ways to remove the stickers.

So what does everyone think? Leave the stickers on, or take them off and why?

Idk, I kinda like the look of the stickers, gives this "new" look to my laptop. Of course eventually I'll have to have them removed.

I would rather remove them. They look so nice until they start to get filthy.

And if you leave them on for too long, they'll leave an imprint. I still have imprints on my older Sony Vaio laptop. I took off the stickers last year(after 2 years of leaving them on). You can still see the spot where the sticker was.

True, but with my dv7t's chrome finish is kinda hard to leave an permanent imprint on it, all I have to do is wipe it.

    To put it simply...

Pros of taking the stickers off -
    1) Cleaner look
    2) No risk of leaving a mark of some kind

Cons of taking the stickers off -
    1) Stickers typically get filthy with use and/or start peeling off anyway
    2) Possible negative impact on resell either privately or through a trade-up program

As for the original question, most of the stickers now and days on the notebooks use the low resin polymer glues that peel away nicely without leaving a residue. Just simply pull firmly, but slowly as Harpreet said and you should be fine. Even if it does leave a bit of residue, simply rub your finger across it and it should peel up without incident.

If it means anything, I usually remove most if not all of the stickers on my laptops.

Alright, thanks guys. I didn't have a heat source so I just pulled them off really slow. The only one that left crap was some silver graphics card one that was an actual sticker, the others were more like window decals apparently. Now I just have to find some baby oil.

    @Schvidah:
I don't really know why I wanted to remove them, I guess they do no harm, it just seemed pointless to me to tell me that I have Windows Vista or nVidia graphics or what optional features I could have gotten. It came with some sort of line design all over the case so you can see that more, looks bare but better I think. My friend on the other hand has kept his HP laptop stickers on for more than a year so each to their own I guess.

Its all personal preference. I always remove them when I get the laptop, as the last time I kept them on for a while was my averatec and when they had to come off there was a discoloration where the stickers were and it made the palm rest look bad.

If there is residue, just use the sticky side of tape to get it off. The residue is basically glue that needs to stick onto something. Just press the tape onto the residue and rip it off - you'll be good to go.

Dang, you had me going there for a minute. ;)
Alright, I'm going to use some tape to get a lot of the major stuff off then use some rubbing alcohol when I get home in a week to finish it off (don't have any at my dorm).

    Thanks again guys!

I heard submerging your laptop in acid and liquid nitrogen will help as well. I can't guarantee anything and I am not willing to try it on mine. Best of luck! :)

Well I do work at a pool store so we have tanks of hydrochloric acid, I suppose if rubbing alcohol doesn't work I could try letting it soak in one of the tanks for a night, I'll have to search online though for the liquid nitrogen. ;)

I just spoke with a representative and they told me that removing the "Windows Vista" and the processor logo would result in the warranty being voided. All other stickers are allowed to be removed. We exchanged a few words that I can't post. XD

    Once again, just kidding.... :)
