So, my cat puked on my envy. He came up and puked on the left side around the ESC key and others.

I immediately shut down the computer and wiped it up. I then retardedly tried to turn it on again out of fright, and the power button light turned on and them off instantly.

I took out the battery and have it sitting out

I bought this through Amazon about 3 weeks ago, what do I do? :(

first of all... punt the cat out of a 5 story building.... after that try opening the laptop up and using 90ish something % alcohol and try to just wipe it down, i would also find the instructions to take apart the keyboard and see if any puke got underneath the keyboard, lastly I would pray to the cat gods and ask what could be done :D

Well, I think I most certainly ruined things by trying to turn it back on again so soon and seeing the light come on and then off. Obvious frying I suppose.

HP wants $400 and for me to send it in - think i'd rather do that than ruin things any more

Just clean it as best you can, let it sit, and pray. I once spilled a full cup of coffee on my notebook, while it was on and running.

It was seemingly "dead" for a week, but it came back to life once everything had dried up. So, give it at least a week before you pay this $400.

Unplug it and pull the battery too.

    Long story short:

My MBP was sitting in a puddle of water running. It turned off and would not turn on. I took every panel i could off and patted it dry. I took the ram out and dried that up. Then i threw everything (batt. ram, etc.) into a broiling pan. I then poured rice ontop of everything and sealed it best i could with clear wrap and tinfoil and left it under a light.

The rice will absorb all the moisture. Now puke is a bit different, its not all moisture. You should do what Texanman said and take off the keyboard and clean it all up. Then do the rice trick. A 2-5 days and i would say it is say to turn on.

Wow, Dtao, that was pretty ... Hell, that was unique and weird as hell.

I agree that the cat needs to die. It's the only way.

This is the only proper course of action. If your envy was one with the radiance screen, you should torture it first.

some credit cards offer theft/accident protection on items for the first 30-90 days. Definitely check that out before shelling out money to fix it.

If you're brave, buy a bottle of everclear and was down the components and let them dry for several days.

Thought I'd get back to you all, and thanks for the help

I ended up just sending it in immediately and paying the 400

I know HP has the worst reputation for customer service, but it couldn't have gone smoother. I got a box the day after I called, I sent it in and they got it in 2 days, and I was only without my computer for 5 business days - but the holiday did extend things a day

Maybe it's because I paid the money and didn't fight over warranty coverage, but I was insanely surprised at HP's competence

And best of all - all my class notes are in tact! I last backed them up a month before the cat incident (will now do it everyday - but of course I won't keep up with it, because who does?)

Anyway - fun story, but all is good!

    Oh I almost forgot -
They replaced the motherboard, trackpad, and keyboard
I guess the motherboard got a good frying

There are several backup programs you can use to backup your data automatically while you sleep or the laptop is idle.
