    I have tried twice to install these drivers, on the ATI site it if you put you have a mobile card in there drive selector it tells you to use your current drivers or check with you notebook maker for drivers. If it just put I have a Radeon family it brings be to a page I can download the catalyst drivers, I download it and then try to install. Then after its started it will say it hasen't detected the hardware components on my system and will not install. I must guess its seeing at mobile card looking for a desktop card? Dose anyone have a work around for this?

    There is an easy bypass for this issue, I've done it myself.

    1. Double Click ATI driver file (file you downloaded from ATI) and it will extract all the files to an ATI folder in your HDD
    2. Goto Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver
    3. Select "Install from a list or a specific location" and direct it to the ATI folder, you're gonna have to go a few subfolders down to get to the driver folder
    4. It should then go through the process of installing the drivers, you may come up with a message, but you should be able to continue for the install

    These steps should be able to get the Catalyst drivers installed into your system.

    Good Luck!

    Hi DaGreek,
    Just to play the other side of the coin. There is a reason that ATI does not put post the mobile drivers and ask that you get them from the manufacturer. It's because they are all customized by each notebook maker to be completely compatible with their particular notebook. The driver may seem to work fine at first, but their may be a compatiblity issue with a certain software or a hardware conflict with an IRQ or memory address range that will cause the OS to suddenly crash for no apperent reason. I have a friend who worked for 3DFX a few years back who told me this and suggested that I only upgrade the video drivers when the manufacturer posts their version as it could save me a lot of headache down the line. He said to me its not being on the leading edge as much as being on the bleeding edge. I don't know about HP, but IBM posts new drivers within a couple of weeks of ATI release of new drivers...Not too long to wait as most update are usually pretty minor.

    To bypass the described problem, some people use the modified drivers that are available for notebooks with ATI Mobility video cards. With those drivers you can also overclock the video card (aka asking for trouble). If you are interested check out www.omegadrivers.net
