Hi , i have a Dv5-1036tx laptop which has a broken screen cable.. I've finally gathered my horses up to change it. I have a 15.4 inch WXGA Anti-Glare Screen and have found the replacement cable part. I just need help now to dissassemble it. Also how do i remove the HDD cable? i can't figure out how to do that. I need a lot of help so all your imputs are appreciated.. if someone can do it and put some pictures , i'll be grateful. Also i'm not sure on how to replace the display cable.. What do you have to do? I've put the DV5 service manaual so you can point me in the right direction.

I just can't get to which step after removing the LCD i can remove the cable. The most i have ever disassembled is till the switch cover and reinserted the display cable which doesn't work now.

Hi Sean, where abouts in the UK are you? If your not too far I could give you a hand, It would be easier than trying to explain it if you cant follow the service manual.

You don't need to actually remove the LCD itself.
Take out the switch cable and keyboard (if I remember right, it was under kb).
Then remove the display bezel (just pull it carefully apart starting from the inner edge, no tools needed just fingers) and take out couple screws in the lower part of the display so the back cover loosens.

Now it is possible to unplug display cable from the motherboard and you also can reach it behind the LCD. A good time to also verify you have correct cable :)

Oh mate i live near london.. too far away... So Basically , i remove the switch cover and keyboard but don't you have to remove the speakers... the thing i i get the service manual till removing the switch cover+ keyboard+ speakers... its the LCD which is the problem.. can someone read through it and give me a better idea than it does? The Disassembly videos on youtube also don't help at all with the screen.

I kinda forgot the speaker assembly :) I've opened that model only couple times, hard to remember everything at once.

Look at the page 28, 81 and 54 on the guide. Bezel, part nr. 1 will come loose just by prying it apart with fingers. The screws are at the hinges (nr. 4) and when you take them off, the back cover (nr. 8) should come loose. Then you can reach the lcd cable.

Unless you want to, there is no need to actually take off the LCD itself.

What part of the hdd cable was the problem? Motherboard part lifts off and the other part is just plugged in the hdd... :)
