    Hi all,
Back in October 2015, my wife acquired this Pavilion, that came with Win 8 pre-installed.
Since she didn't like it at all, I managed to install Win7 on it, using the method of bypassing UEFI on a normal MBR HDD, described on this link in the sevenforums.
However, even after installing Win7, the laptop has random reboots now and then, specially after waking up.
Back then, no Win7 drivers were available, apparently now there are some, but I still feel inclined to complete wipe out the current system and perform a fresh install of Win10.
There's currently a OEM license that can be purchased through Amazon, that costs around 10 EUR and I'm going to use this to activate Win 10.

However, I understand that for Win10 the HDD needs to be GPT and since I did the modification to MBR while I was fresh installing Win7, the logic tells me that I need to revert this now.

Can somebody please tell me what needs to be changed on the following command or can I just go ahead and wipe the HDD and boot a Win10 DVD?

    "
At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SEL DIS 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
    CLEAN
    CONVERT MBR
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
    FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
    ACTIVE
    EXIT
    EXIT"

I'm not sure if this is the only possible way, I found that there's a tool called Disk-Partition, that allows this on a MBR HDD, but I'm not 100% sure if this will work on her laptop.

Any hint or suggestion is highly appreciated!
    Thank you for reading me,
    Ken

Have you bought the Windows 10 key yet? If not, good, don't buy it, your Windows 8 key embedded in the motherboard should still activate Windows 10 as of now.

Normally you don't need to manually convert the partition table from MBR to GPT. Assuming EFI boot option is enabled, you just need to delete ALL partitions in your hard drive and make a new one in Windows 10 installer. The steps are described in this post:
Now get yourself a Windows 10 ISO (for free and directly from M$) and write it to your DVD (burn the image, not putting the image in as a file) or USB drive (using Rufus, for example).

    IMPORTANT:
Before installing Windows 10, make sure you've backed up all important files to another drive, as the files will be gone when you wipe the partitions. You've been warned.

Boot with DVD or USB and wait for a few minutes to let the files load up. Click "Install", in your case you shouldn't be prompted with entering product key and choosing the Windows version (as your laptop already has a Windows 8 key embedded). Accept the EULA and delete ALL partitions in your hard drive, then make new partitions as you like and let the installer do the rest.

Once done you should have a fully activated Windows 10 in your laptop.

    @OverTallman
Thank you very much for your help on this :)

There might be an issue here... First thing I did when getting the laptop was creating those Recovery DVD's, I think I created 6 in total. However, I deleted any single partition, morevoer, when creating the MBR partition, everything was wiped out. Currently I have two partitions: C:\ - with 91GB and D:\ - with 840 GB - nothing else.
I first would need to install again those HP Recovery DVD's, have Win8 installed, and then install Win10 again. Not sure if I want to do that, I'm not even sure if it will work without having a recovery partition still existent...
Since you told me that there probably will be no need to use that command I found on sevenforums, I think that in the end I will download an official Win10 version and use that license from Amazon. I mean, I can try to re-install Win8 with the DVD's, but in the end it might be just a waste of time. 10€ is a bargain, it comes close to what I spend daily on coffee and lunch...
Btw... thank you also for the link, I'll check it out later.

    Cheers
    Ken
