Hello to and thank you in advance to anyone who can help. I have recently purchased an hp 6500t with vista home premium. I got the anytime upgrade cd that came with the notebook. I am considering upgrading to the 64bit ultimate os and I am wondering the best and most inexpensive way of going about this. Also I am wondering if I will loose all of my files and have to reinstall everything.

Did the same thing and took a while to upgrade even though I had a full install ultimate. Files won't be deleted. To be safe do a backup of critical data.

You most likely will need to reinstall programs and some won't work in 64-bit. Please check to make sure you have a 64-bit anytime upgrade DVD though, they come in two flavors and I've never seen HP ship a 64-bit DVD with a system that had a 32-bit factory installed OS. Most likely, you'll need to order one from MS.

Everything I've seen says you need to do a reinstall to change from 32 bit to 64 bit. I assume you can reinstall on top of what you have, but that would get really messy. You'll certainly have to reinstall all of your programs. Your best bet is to back up all your data, then do a clean install with a disk format.
