Hey everyone, I just ordred a v2000. I only ordered it with 256meg ram to save a bit. I have a extra 256 that I am going to add from another laptop. I just saw some 512 on sale for $30 and was wondering how hard it is to remove the internal stick so maybe I will get 2x512 and sell the extra 256 sticks.

    Anyone do this?

    Thanks

It's pretty easy, just make sure the RAM you have is compatible.

I am going to get these

Can you give me a quick run down on what to do... nothing fancy just a summary. Or point me to where to look.

    Thanks!

There's a hatch on the bottom of the notebook that lets you access the SODIMM slots.

Do yourself a favor and buy Crucial PC2700 memory. That will work. Kingston is a good choice too, usually (I'm a little concerned after finding out that Kingston "Value" RAM isn't necessarily made by Kingston). Transcend tends to be good. From there it's hit-or-miss. The AMD64 high-performance integrated memory controller isn't as tolerant of marginal RAM as Intel's slower external controller. Whatever you buy, verify it with MemTest86+ after installation.

Actually, I think PC3200 will play nice in Turion notebooks, what with the improved memory controller in the E-series CPU cores. Not positive though.

So both slots are accessible from the hatch? On my last laptop only one was and the other the keyboard had to come out. :(

Thnaks for the memory info I will check it out.
